IT WAS MORNING, and Rafael and Julieta were asleep.
Sunlight came streaming in through the windows in the wall like a million bright ambassadors of morning, inviting and inciting them to rise.
Rafael and Julieta woke up.
Alex, Ana and Leo were 13 years old now.
They were months away from turning 14.
Alex sat on the ship's edge outside the house and looked at the horizon, echoing how young Rafael sat on the ship's edge staring out at the horizon.
THAT NIGHT, RAFAEL went to a black market Vendor's cabin room down inside one of the ships in the market place.
Rafael knocked on the Vendor's door and the Vendor opened the door and let him in.
The Vendor was a Man in his 40s, he walked with a cane and was balding.
The Vendor went and brought out a briefcase from his safe in his closet.
The Vendor put the briefcase on a small table and opened it for Rafael to see.
Rafael looked inside and said—
—"How much do you want for it?"
The Vendor closed the briefcase and told Rafael his price.
RAFAEL RETURNED HOME LATE THAT NIGHT and went into his bedroom where Julieta was awake and waiting for him to return.
Julieta saw him enter their bedroom and whispered—
—"¿Qué pasó? ¿Cuánto quiere?" (What happened? How much does he want?)
"Mucho. (A lot.) It's gonna take some time to get all of that. He said he also wants a white pearl."
Then Julieta, without any hesitation, took the pearl off her ring and handed it to Rafael.
"Are you sure?" asked Rafael.
"Yes, I'm sure. This is more important." said Julieta and Rafael took the white pearl.
"¿Hay algo más?" (Is there anything else?) asked Julieta.
"Yeah, there's something we need to do before that."
"¿Qué es?" (What is it?)
"We need to tell the kids Everything, it's time."
"Ok."
"We'll do it tomorrow night when we spend the night at Adriana's." said Rafael.
THE NEXT NIGHT, when they were all sleeping over at Adriana's house, 3 Masked Adults entered the kids' bedroom where the Twins and Leo were sleeping.
Then the 3 Masked Adults grabbed and gagged the kids with rags so they couldn't scream.
Then they blindfolded them and tied them up with rope.
