Part 1 + Prolouge: Crimson Demon's Trial

Prolouge

Kazuma: Hey, are you guys done with your preparations?! You properly maintained your equipment, right?!

Darkness: Aah, my armor is really glittering after all that polish! My beloved greatsword too has been sharpened to a fine edge, so expect great things from me!

Y/n: Hey, how much food should I pack? Or should I just bring the whole fridge?

Kazuma: Why?!

Y/n: Because they're poor!

Megumin: I appreciate the thought, but you didn't have to say it like that.

Aqua: Say, Darkness, maybe you should give up on fighting with a sword and just use your fists instead.

Darkness: Well, then, if you're going to say that, maybe I shall start making use of my fists right now. Come over here, Aqua.

In direct contrast to the rest of the group, who have been extremely excited since morning, Megumin bore the bare minimum of equipment as she joined them.

Megumin: ...Why's everyone so motivated? In the first place, there are stores in the Crimson Demon village, so I don't think there's any need to bring so much stuff with us...

Kazuma: What are you saying?! It's a trial, you know?! A trial! One that can challenge even the tribe of elite mages, the Crimson Demons! No matter how much preparations we make, it will never be enough!

Y/n: Exactly!

Hearing their words, Megumin returned a bewildered look.

Megumin: Can you please stop blaming others for you failing the trial?!

Yunyun: Then just whose fault could it be?! I told you not to use Explosion, so why?! Why must you fire it off at the worst possible place?!

Kazuma invited Yunyun inside and tried to ask for more details but...

Kazuma: Now, now, calm down, Yunyun. It's unreasonable to expect a girl like her who lives like an exploding firework to not use Explosion magic. I mean, it'd be like expecting Axis Cultist to act mature and reserved. It's just not possible.

Y/n: Like Darkness hitting her targets.

Kazuma: Or Wiz buying garbage items.

Y/n: Or Vanir extorting people for money.

Kazuma: I'm sure you get the point.

Yunyun: When you put it that way, it feels like I'm the one who was in the wrong...

Aqua: Kazuma, that example is being rude to Axis Cultists. My children are a little free-spirited, but they aren't as bad as Megumin.

Megumin: Right, come at me, all of you! I'll show you what happens when a Crimson Demon gets serious!

Y/n: What are ya gonna do? Cast Explosion? You know I can drain you, before that happens, right?

Megumin: Grrrrr...

Darkness: A single person can only undertake the trial three times, so after failing twice, this is your last chance, right? I've actually heard about this trial before.
