Chapter 19 Teagan

"I need you to buy all these things," my dad says giving me a list of things.

   "So many?" I ask.

   "Yes."

   "Don't you already have cookies and chips?"

   "All over."

   I nod and grab my car keys. I leave the house and drive to the supermarket.

   After an hour I come back home. I carry all the bags and walk up to the front door. Before I can knock the door, it opens revealing my mum. She steps outside and closes the door. "Leave it back in the car," she says.

   "Mum. What's wrong?"

   "Nothing. Just leave it back there. Your dad will come and take it."

   I nod and take it back to the car. From behind she pulls out my hair tie and runs her fingers through my hair.

   "Mum what the hell?" I ask turning around.

   She applies lipstick on my lips without saying anything. I protest but she ignores me and starts dusting my top and adjusts my clothes.

   "Come."

   "Mum who's in?"

   I follow her into the house and I gasp when a bunch of people jump in front of me screaming happy birthday. I look around at everyone. Noah and Katherine are here along with Hope. Hayden stands with some girl I don't recognize. I see Lucah with his friend Haley from Uni. Even Chad and Anna are here. They all start hugging me and wishing me as I process what's happening.

   "Teagan this is my friend Bea. Bea this is my best friend Teagan. We were practically diaper buddies," Hayden says and I chuckle.

   "Hey, I like your hair," she says and then hugs me, wishing, "happy birthday".

   "Thanks. I like your eyes."

   "Thanks."

   "Gosh, how did y'all come?" I ask when Chad hugs me.

   "Hayden invited us."

   "Well, I'm so glad y'all came."

   We all surrounded by the table to cut the cake. I take a piece and feed my parents first. Then I take another piece wondering if I should give it to Noah or Hayden or Lucah. Hayden (standing on my right) nudges my hand. So I feed Lucah (on my left) and he takes some cream and rubs it on my nose. I chuckle. Then we all sit for dinner. I sit in between Bea and Lucah.

   "So how did you and Bea meet?" My dad asks Hayden.

   "She is a teacher at Hope's school. This little one made us friends," he says and ruffles Hope's hair making her whine.

   "Oh, that's nice. What do you teach?"

   "Music," Bea replies.

   "You should hear her. She's amazing," Katherine says.

   "So basically Hayden found a doppelganger," I say and he chuckles.

   "Yup just like Lucah is yours," Hayden replies.

   "What that? A dop-a-Langer," Hope asks.

   "Doppelganger. It's someone who is just like you. Kinda like a twin," Noah explains.

   "Like Zaydy!" She exclaims and everyone goes silent.

   "Cheers to Zayden," Bea says and everyone nod raising their glass of wine.
