Josie opens the door and lets me in. I thank her. I carefully hold the cupcake in my hand as I tip-toe to Bea's room. I find Bea sprawled across the bed. Avery sleeps soundly in her cradle. I adjust Bea's T-shirt that was rolled up and pull it over her stomach covering her. I place the cupcake on the desk and my guitar by the wall before laying beside her. I wrap my arms around her waist and scoot closer to her. I start kissing her cheeks as I softly sing, “Happy birthday.” Kiss. “To you.” Kiss again. “Happy birthday.” Kiss. “To my Beabear.” She opens her eyes and bursts out laughing. Slowly turning to her side, she looks at me. “Why are you so cute uh?” she asks.

“Not as cute as you,” I tease making her roll her eyes. I laugh and kiss her lips. “Happy birthday darling.”

   “Thank you.”

I try to get up but Bea grips my shirt. “Cuddle with me,” she says sexily in her morning voice. I kiss her head and tell her, “As much as I want to, I have somewhere to take you. So.” I pull away and sit up. “Get up lady.” She groans and sits up rubbing her eyes. I take the cupcake and hand it to her. She goes to bite it and I quickly place my finger on her mouth. “Hold up!” I take a small candle and lighter from my pocket. I place the candle in the cupcake and light it. I start singing again and clap my hands. “May God bless you dear. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Happy birthday to you.”

“God you're so sappy sometimes,” she chuckles and then blows the candle. I take the cupcake from her and remove the candle before feeding her the cupcake. She takes a bite which ends up with her nose getting frosting on it. I laugh and lean forward. “Mmm?” I shake my head and lick her nose. Bea yelps in surprise making me burst into laughter. She pouts and grabs the cake from me. “I'll eat it myself!”

Right on cue, Avery makes a noise. I stand up and go over to her cradle. Her big emerald eyes look at me. “Well hello, their princess.” I carry her and she claps her hand in joy. She mumbles something and giggles. I kiss her head and walk over to her mother. “You sit with your Mama now and listen to dada sing alright?” I tell the child and give her to Bea.

“Are you going to sing happy birthday again for the third time?” Bea teases.

   “Mmm maybe.”

I grab my guitar and remove it from its bag. I take a paper from inside and open it. “Remember some time ago when I showed you my song journal? There was this one page I never let you see?” Bea nods. “Well, now you can see- well listen to what it is.” Bea smiles and nods. “Hope I don't mess up,” I joke and chuckle. I start strumming the guitar while I tap my feet. I watch Bea as her eyes gleam at me.

“Hold on tight for a little bit longer
The tide will go
And you'll be stronger.
Rest your head on my chest
I will hold you
While we pass this test

Dum ba da bummm da ba da
Da bum bummm”

Avery claps her hand and giggles.

“Oh if your feet start hurting.
I would carry you, my darling.
And if your pain gets too heavy.
I will hold it with you my darling.
Cause I love you
Let me love you
Oh, my darling let me in.”

By the chorus, I find Bea in tears. I smile and continue singing.

“Let's hold on tight beyond forever
No matter what
We are in this together.
We'll figure it out just like the rest
I trust you darling
You're doing your best.”

I start swaying a bit and Avery mimics me while I sing, “Dum ba da bummm da ba da
Da bum bummm

Oh if your feet start hurting.
I would carry you, my darling.
And if your pain gets too heavy.
I will hold it with you my darling.
Cause I love you
Let me love you
Oh, my darling let me in.

Da ba dum bum
Da ba bum dum
Cause I love you
Let me love you
Oh, my darling let me in.”

As I place the guitar down, Bea bursts into tears and Avery looking at her mum also starts crying. “Hey! Hey? What's wrong?” I ask as I scoot closer. Bea shakes her head and wipes her cheeks. She chuckles and more tears roll down her cheeks. “Sorry… it's just no one ever- I can't believe you wrote a song for me.”

I go to hug her but then look at Avery. I carry the child and quickly put her back into her cradle. I walk back to Bea and she leaps into my arms. I hug her tight and kiss her head. “Thank you so much. I love you and the song very much.”
