I keep trying to call Teagan, but she doesn't pick up. The horror I saw on her face when I looked at her just won't leave my mind. I know what was running through her mind. Zayden. Even though she hasn't really spoken to me about that day, I knew what happened.
I stand there and watch the girl who I brought to the hospital run to her parents. I assure them that their son is alright and they thank me before I leave.
I stop the car at Teagan's house and walk up to her door. I knock on it and Emmet opens the door. He smiles and welcomes me in.
"This is Teagan's car key," I say, giving it to him. He frowns.
"Where's Teagan?"
She's not here. Shit.
"She uhm she's gone for a walk," I lie.
"Son, what happened ?"
"Nothing?"
Tusha comes from the kitchen and looks at me.
"Where is Teagan?" She asks.
"Where is she really? Emmet emphasizes. Guess I gotta tell them. I sigh and tell them what happened.
I get into my car and drive to the first place I can think of. I take my phone and dial her number as I run into the cemetery. I look around, hoping to see her here. I walk up to my brother's grave, but she isn't by it. I kneel in the mud and look at his grave. "Are you happy now?" I ask him. "Now she won't even talk to me." I feel guilty for telling her about Zayden. I wait for my brother who kept bugging me before, to respond now, but I get nothing. "You know some things are better unsaid," I mutter, feeling stupid that I listened to a dead man. My phone rings and I see Emmet's name flash on my screen.
"Hello?"
"She's with Lucah. She's safe," Emmet says.
"Okay. Tell her to call me when she gets home."
"Sure."
I drive to my house and park the car in the garage. My phone rings again and I pick up without looking at the name.
"Heeeey, are you okay?" I ask.
"Yes. Thanks mate." It is not the female voice I expect, but a male voice that speaks. Josh. "How are you, dude?"
"Good," I reply.
"Have you finished your assignment?"
"What assignment?" I ask, dumbfounded.
"The one where we had to use charcoal and draw something. Dude, tomorrow is the submission date."
"Shit. Gotta go bye!"
"Good luck, dude."
I knock on the door, and Bea opens the door. "Hey! Sorry, I got some work," I say and give her a quick hug before I run upstairs. I go into Hayden's room and search through his books and folders. I groan, not finding anything with charcoal. "C'mon Zay! Help me!" "Draw something yourself," he casually says.
"Oh, so now you reply," I mutter and roll my eyes as I go through his drawer. Once again, I get no reply from him. I finally find a book that comprises sketches of Teagan. I find one with charcoal and neatly rip it out. I take it to my room and grab my pencil case. I erase the smudged parts and draw over some areas which got faded due to time. Then I erase Zayden's sign and scribble mine.
"Hayden."
I turn around and I find Bea looking at the drawing on my desk.
"Bea it's not what you-"
