“She is mine. I won’t ever let you see my child,” Mira says looking at Bea defiantly. I clench my fist and step closer. “I know very well why you want the baby. Don’t play dumb,” I tell her in disgust hoping to get a reaction out of her. Her smirk drops and she looks almost worried but then laughs it off, “Good luck boy. You’ll find nothing.” Bea comes to say something when our attorney steps forward and tells the cops to take Mira away. The cop in charge nods and she walks away. Mr Yeun turns around and walks to the opposite side. Bea runs after him.

“WHY? WHY DID YOU DO THAT?” Bea yells. “ARE YOU ON HER SIDE?”

I walk up to her and squeeze her shoulder. “Bea…”

She looks at me, “How can he Hay? We asked him to see that she stays in jail. Then why did he stay quiet? Why did Mrs Larson let go?!” she asks in agitation.

“She is still arrested. Just in her house,” I remind her. That’s right Mira is put under house arrest. Mira's blonde talked her way through by questioning every piece of evidence we submitted. Of course, Yeun fought back too. However, the evidence we had wasn't enough. As Mr Yeun had surmised, Mira did claim that Bea hurt herself. So let me summarize what happened when I got back.

   >I was taken by surprise by the recording of my mother and had to confess about Bea lying to us
   >Mira called Bea unfit by showing a message she sent saying she couldn't handle Avery crying.
   >Yeun defended Bea saying she was overwhelmed with the family burden and grief.
   >Yeun then revealed Mira's threat about leaving if Bea didn't take on the family burden and provided Bea's work history to the Judge.
   >Miller pointed out that the transactions Bea made were mostly for herself.
   >The only bill evidence we had was the daycare records Avery was in during the weekends. All of them were registered in Bea's name.
   >Yeun elaborates how Mira never stayed on the weekends and rarely came home Saturday nights so Bea was the one with the child.
   >Miller argued that Mira met with artists and saw about her gallery on the weekends.
   >Yeun then questioned why Mira disappeared.
   >Mira said she went to the next town to meet a sponsor for the gallery.
   >Yeun asked where she stayed. She said at a hotel. He asked if she had the bill for the hotel.
   >Miller questioned why that was necessary.
   >"To see if the child was in a safe and good environment," said Mr Yeun.
   >Mira ranted about how she takes good care of Avery. Yeun pressed her for the bills she said Pierre had them. After they broke up, she stayed with her friend.
   >“Okay, your name will be registered in the hotel. I’m sure you were able to get the registration form for proof," Mr Yeun pointed.
   >Miller gave an excuse that the hotel owner wasn't around when she went to collect it and told the Judge she will provide it in the next Hearing.

Yes. Next Hearing! Another long wait! The Judge said that some things were still unclear. He said the next Hearing will be soon and told Mira's blonde to provide the required pieces of evidence in the next Hearing. He also requested Mrs Larson to try and find Pierre as soon as possible since he is a key alibi in the case. Meanwhile, all of us were requested to go for counselling. The Judge appointed an evaluator to see how each of our relationships is with the baby because the baby's choice also matters.

I was unable to attain the footage of Mira hitting Bea. Pierre wasn't here to tell on her either. So upon having no solid evidence that Mira is dangerous, Miller pleaded for bail. The case filed against Mira was the kidnap of Avery. According to Miller it wasn't kidnap because Avery was Mira's child. So Miller thought it was ridiculous to keep Mira in. The Judge asked Mrs Larson what she thought and she suggested putting Mira under house arrest. He then asked our lawyer what he has to say and Mr. Yeun agreed to it as planned.

“She will definitely escape now. One cop won’t hold her back. She will escape. Why did you do this without telling us?” Bea asks Mr Yeun who looks at me. “Your boyfriend is aware of it. I didn’t do anything on my own,” Yeun replies. Bea turns and looks at me. I see pain and betrayal in her eyes. Guilt stabs my heart. “Why?” she whispers, her voice barely audible.

   “Bea. Listen-“

“Don’t you know what she is capable of? How can you do this!? Why?” she sobs.

I reach out to her and she flinches. Another stab. I notice someone walking toward us. Bea doesn’t notice them. She turns around and starts running. I look at Tusha and exclaim, “This is why I said don’t want! How do you one hundred per cent know he will come? What if she escapes and you are unable to get her back?”

“Hayden, hun. All we can do is hope. I’ve dealt with so many criminals. He will come to meet her or she will try to reach him surely. She will be watched 24/7 I promise.” Tusha pats my back. I sigh and nod before I sprint off to find Bea.

Bea is nowhere to be seen So I head in the direction I saw her run. I keep running until I get to the main road. That's when I see her on the other side of the road. “Bea! Bea, wait!” she sees me and starts walking away. I walk across the road and run after her. “Bea can you just wait and listen!”

I manage to grab her hand but she pulls away. “Leave me alone, Hayden.” She looks at me tears rolling down her cheeks. “She is going to live in my house. Next, she will get my house. And I? I will have nothing left.” She says with her back facing me. Her words make my heart ache. “So I-I don’t count?” my voice cracks. She stops and looks at me. “That's not what I mean-”

“I did everything I can, Bea. Even this is part of a plan to catch her. Tell me what else can I do? If I can kill that b*tch for you, I would!” I exclaim. “I did everything,” I whisper and turn around. I sigh not knowing what else to do.

Just as I’m about to run, her arms engulf my body and hold me to her chest. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. I’m so sorry, Hay,” I hear her cry. I turn around and hug her for a minute before pulling away upon hearing her wheezing. I take her inhaler from my pocket and give it to her. She forces a smile at me and then takes a puff. I wait for a while till she calms down. Then I hold her hand and wipe her cheeks with my other hand.

“Come with me," I whisper and she follows.

We walk back to court where our friends and my dad is waiting for us. Teagan runs up to us and hugs Bea. She enquires Bea whether she is okay and together we walk over to her mum. “Bea, hun, Do not be mad at Hayden or Jackson. I was the one who told them both not to tell you. Hayden only found out this morning.”

   “But why?”

“Let us go home and talk, ya?”

***

“How are you?” Tusha asks taking a seat in front of us. We are all currently seated in the Jones' house. Even my dad and Lucah are here. “Please tell me why you let her free,” Bea begs.

“Not free Bea. Under house arrest," Tusha corrects. "Yes the court assigned one cop to watch over her and she could escape but that’s exactly what we want. Considering we still haven’t located Pierre, I thought it would be best if we get Mira out of the station. There is a high possibility he would visit her at home. The cop in charge will leave every night just so Mira could think she is alone. So she might either escape and go see Pierre or he might visit her.”

“But what if it doesn’t work?”

“Let us hope for the best. Other than the cop in charge, there will be other cops in disguise watching over the house in case she makes a move. Mrs Larson promised that Mira will be watched 24/7. We are also going to see if we can install a mic inside the house so we could also hear her.”

“But why my house?” Bea looks at me. “She claimed I vape. I know what picture that is. It's a toy. I have that toy at home. How will we get it now, she must be already there,” Bea says as she plays with the hem of her top.

Tusha grabs her bag and pulls out something from it. “You mean this.” It’s a kazoo. “I've been a Criminal lawyer for 17 years, Bea. I know how criminals think. Your house has already been checked and anything that seemed like evidence was taken away. So don’t worry. We didn’t tell you about this because we wanted Mira to believe she has the upper hand. You acting out would have given her a boost. When the suggestion was made, Teagan told me you were shaking your head and begging Jackson to do something. Mira would have seen this surely and the way she spoke to you says she is confident. That’s what we want.”

Bea doesn’t reply. She stays silent for a while, her hand gripping her blouse as she stared at it. After a moment, she nods while looking up. I see tears rolling down her cheeks. “Thank you. Thank you all of you. I don’t know what I would have done without you all.” I place my hand on hers and squeeze it while Teagan and Lucah pat her shoulders.

"Don't thank us. We are family," Teagan says making me smile.
