I hear my ears ringing from the explosion. I do a quick self-check, wiggling each one of my fingers and toes, working my way up to my neck. I can feel an ache in my left arm, and I realize right away it's broken. I can feel something dripping on my face, and when I reach up with my right hand, I realize I had cut my brow. I can hear and see the commotion going on around me, but the blast knocked the wind out of my lungs, so I'm not standing up anytime soon. Fighting right now would be dangerous; I'm having a hard time feeling pain because of all the adrenaline, and my arm is already broken. But fighting is always dangerous, and I'm an Avenger, so I stand up.
I reach into my clutch and pull on my mask. It's tough to do things like that with only my right hand. I get ready to use my powers, even though I can't hear much other than ringing; I was already amplifying all the sound, so the ringing could be permanent. That's the opposite of what I want. I look around the room, and everyone's panicking, there are Avengers running to grab their suits, businessmen running, people passed out or dead on the dance floor. Except for one person. Ive never seen them before, but they look interesting. I focus on the few sounds around me that I can hear, so I can prepare to fight.
I look through what's left of the room before I go up to the mystery person, but there's no bomb bits left. Someone used their powers, it wasn't a bomb. It was the mystery person.
I approach them, but I can't make out their face. I focus, but their features change. I reach to pull off my mask so I can see better, but I'm shoved out of the way.
"MADDIE MOVE!" A voice calls. Kandyce knocks me to the floor. She startled me, but suddenly I feel more aware. I look over at the figure, but they're gone, and the adrenaline is leaving, too. I can feel Kandyce crushing my broken arm.
"Did you see..." I start, but I don't get to finish. Kandyce helps me up and sees that my arm is broken. The whole party is still panicking, but few people are left.
How long was I staring at them? I ask myself, as Kandyce walks me to Sub-Level 8, or the clinic. We get in the elevator, and I can tell she wants to do something. She may be able to read minds, but she wears her emotions on her face. Her face is covered in blood, so it'll be good for her to get to the clinic too.Her phone lights up with a text from Mr. Stark. No signs of bomb pieces, it wasn't a bomb, and there's no one to fight. I already knew that, though. The mystery person is gone, there's not much left to do but go to the clinic and get a cast and some bandages.
