I felt a strange sense of dejavu as I finished brushing my hair. I walked out of my room and into the elevator. I couldn't help but feel like something was... off. Ariba was already there, wearing a wine colored dress.
"Hey, Ariba, you look stunning as always" I tell her.
"Thanks, but I'm going to change, I spilt a bunch of water on my dress and now it looks like I peed myself."
"Don't change, Dee would love that," I joked. She laughed as she got out of the elevator.
When I got to Sub-Level 4, Jay got in the elevator.
"What were you training for?" I ask her. She was wearing a short black sweater dress, not exactly something for training.
"DEEZ NUTS!" she shouts, getting in the elevator. We ride it all the way up to the first floor, and we get out and go to the main ballroom.
Ariba had already changed into a short green cocktail dress. I waved at her, and she waved back. The party was already in full swing. I looked around the room and spotted Flynn. He was wearing a black tux.
"Hey Flynn, what's up?" I ask. He looks nervous.
"Nothing. Uh, do you know where Peter is?"
"Peter? I think I saw him..." I stop myself. I don't remember seeing Peter at all, but it feels like I do. "I guess I haven't seen him all day." I realize.
"Huh. Well if you see him, tell him Flynn is looking for him."
"Ok," I say, walking to the snack table. Alice is standing there, looking bored. Lucy stops me.
"Wanda and Peter are missing," she tells me.
"Yeah, I know, they're probably off playing hooky"
"They're not. I saw Mara and Pietro and neither of them have seen Wanda OR Peter"
"That's strange... Have you asked..."
I look over and see Aspen running to the room behind the snack table. I focus, using my powers to make all the sounds around me louder. I'm overwhelmed, with the music and the speaking, but I can also hear a ticking noise.
I walk away, past Kandyce, who was talking to Loki.
"Hey, Maddie!", she calls. I ignore her.
Suddenly, half the party explodes.
I come to, ears ringing. My eardrums feel like they had burst, since I had been making everything louder. I see Aspen laying not too far from me. She was right where the bomb went off. I get up, and when I look around, people are everywhere. Swarming, running away, Avengers are running for their suits, people are passed out or dead, it's a mess.
I get up, searching for my clutch. I find it pretty quickly, and shove my mask on. Hopefully not too many people remember what my face looks like.
I run to where the bomb went off, but there's no trace of any bomb pieces. Someone must've used their powers. I look around, everyone looks panicked except for one person, calmly sipping their cocktail. Shit.
