I walk into the empty clinic, and my head throbs.
"Kandyce!" I shout, looking for her. My ears start ringing again and I hear speaking, which startles me. The comms shouldn't work all the way down here, all the action is happening on Level 1 and the clinic is on Sub-Level 8. I take off my mask anyways, and the speaking continues. I'm still having a tough time using my powers, so I can't amplify the whispers. My head is spinning and I'm super dizzy.I'm still standing in the empty clinic when it happens. Another bomb goes off, but this time I can barely hear it, and not because of my injury. It's likely happening on Level 1 or Sub-Level 1-2. I bolt to the elevator and ride it nervously to Level 1. Nothing's happened. The ballroom has no more damage. Somehow it's completely empty. I sit on the floor and pick up my phone. My first thought is to dial Peter, we're really close and I have a crush on him. I want to make sure he's alright. Everything's empty and I feel like I've been drugged.
The whole compound must be empty, I think, scrolling through my phone's contacts, trying to decide who to call. I should call the police. Or an ambulance, but who would they come for? Everybody's already left. There aren't even any bodies on the floor, and all the rubble has been cleared up. I can't find Peter's contact and I don't remember his number, so I call Flynn instead. The phone doesn't even ring, it just goes straight to voicemail. It must be off or broken. I stand up and start looking for people.
It doesn't take a lot of looking; everyone is gone and every room has been ransacked. I must be hallucinating. I went down to Sub-level 9, where a bunch of old junk that wouldn't fit anywhere else is, but most of the expensive junk is gone. We've been robbed. It must be the same person who ransacked every room. Maybe Hydra or some other crazy villain.
"Maybe it's one of you," I hear someone whisper. I whip around. No one was standing there. I go all the way back up to Level 1 and I leave. Everyone's cars are still there, so I just borrow one. They're not using it anyway. Where is everyone?
I get in the car, and they left their keys in it. I start to drive. I don't know where I'm going, and I don't have my ID, and I'm in a stolen car, and my hearing and senses are all messed up, so I probably shouldn't be driving. The roads are empty. I check my phone: 1:12 AM. Has it really been an hour since I saw anyone? I stop in the middle of the street and try to call Mr Stark. He HAS to know something. He doesn't pick up. I go through my contacts list, calling EVERYONE, I even call the pizza place, but no one answers.
I turn the car around and go back to the compound. I figured the bomb was a distraction so whoever did it could steal a bunch of shit. I shouldn't say bomb, because it wasn't one, someone used their powers,
probably the mystery person. I know I'm hallucinating, so it's all in my head right? If I go back to the clinic, there are probably people there that I can't see. Maybe I can find Kandyce or Aspen or Ariba or someone. There has to be someone somewhere. I walk back into the half destroyed ballroom and start screaming bloody murder. I can't see anyone, but someone must be there.Nothing happens, and my voice is dying, so I stop. I ride the elevator down to the clinic and scream there, too, but nothing's happening. Either everyone's looking at me like I'm a freak, or I really am completely alone. I try to call Ariba, but it goes straight to voicemail. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone's phone was broken.
I need to figure this out. If I am the only one here, then I'm the only one who can fix this.
