I follow Adria to the pool area, her pink hair bobbing up and down. We sit on the pool deck and she tells me how badly her mission went.
"I messed it up," she cries, "I got distracted by seeing my mom again and.... I knew better. I'm going to get fired, I know it."
"How do you know you're going to get fired?"
"They're having me talk to Stark." I suck my breath in.
"Tony or Mara?"
"Tony."
"Shit."
"Yeah."
Yep, she's done for. I head back up, and she stays on, going all the way up to Tony's office. I get off on my floor and sit at my desk. It's only 3:30. I scoot my chair back.
"Jay."
"Yeah?"
"Adria's gonna get fired."
"What?" She slides her chair back so she's facing me directly.
"Yeah, she's going to talk to Tony right now."
"Holy shit. Are they gonna throw her out into the apocalypse or something?"
"Maybe."
"That's gotta be illegal!"
I shrug and wait for her to come back. It's only 4 now.
Bruce calls me in. Im on party duty again.
I hate party duty.
