I sit on my bed looking out of the window. People passing by, cars driving on the streets and, I guess, Tony. There are a few paintings of him. But a lot of people disrespect those. I can feel the air around me cooling down. I close my eyes and take a few deep breathes, getting the air back on its normal temperature.
After a few seconds Alice opens my door. She sits down next to me, but I don't look at her.
"Are you okay?" she asks me. I look at her from the corner of my eye.
I sigh and answer her "I'll be. It's just that some people have no respect."
Alice looks out of the window. In that moment some dork throws something at a painting of Tony. I sigh and look away.
"Why are you here?" I ask her, looking her straight in the eyes.
"We are going back to the compound now" she tells me, already standing up.
"Let's go, I already have our bags." She extends her hand for me to take, what I gladly do.
Getting on the bus was harder than I thought. Someone claimed that they saw Kandyce yesterday. Now the paparazzi is here, trying to get something out of us.
I walk in front of Alice, trying to push trough the crowd to finally get on the bus. After getting to the doors I let Alice walk in first. Looking trough the crowd I make sure that one person isn't there. After not seeing him I turn around and walk into the bus.
I sit next to Alice. We both don't talk. Nobody on the bus does. I just scroll trough my phone. It's disgusting what I see. People saying Tony was wonderful, others saying he deserved it to die, and again others talking about what will happen with Stark Industries and talking about how Mara isn't able to take over. And then there are the worst of all. The people saying that Tony faked his death or the ones that say that Kandyce killed him. I turn of my phone and put it in my bag.
I get out my phone again after a few seconds, realizing that I don't have anything else to do. I open my gallery, going trough the pictures I took of the book yesterday.
We arrive at the compound. There are reporters and paparazzi that block our way. Everyone gets out of the bus. I don't want to deal with any paparazzi right now and hide in the crowd. I slowly make my way to the end of it. Standing in front of the compound I look over the crowd. It's fucking disgusting how they treat us. Alice and Maddie walk up to me. We enter the compound together.
As soon as we enter the room Kandyce stands up and leaves.
-------------------------------------------------------
I look into the mirror and sigh, fixing my black dress. It's one of the dresses that belonged to mum. Tony gave it to me after he found them. I put on my necklace, making sure it's secure before walking out my room.
We all gather in the living room. I sit next to dad when the woman who will read the will walks in. She sits down on a chair across from us. Her hair in a tight bun. Her posture is straight and confident. I shudder, realizing who I'm reminded of.
"My name is Livia Augustus. I was sent here from SHIELD, and while I'm reading the will today, I will be taking over management of the Avengers, so it would behoove you to get to know me."
She isn't serious, right?
"Excuse me? Why are you in charge? My dad ran the Avengers. I should be in charge," Mara speaks up.
"I'm in charge because those are the rules", she says, looking up at Mara with a slick smile.
As I was saying," she begins, reminding me why we are here, "Mr Tony Stark specified in his will what would happen with his asset as follows: $250,000 to each Avenger, and the rest to Pepper and Mara."
As long as she isn't counted as an Avenger.
"As for the Avengers, all management, as per the US government, will be transferred to me, a SHIELD representative. As such, you are all required to complete a new tryout, including but not limited to an aptitude test and combat skills test. We reserve the right to add or remove anyone we see fit. Good luck."
You're fucking kidding me Fury, right?
