Y/N's POV

Today Rosie has the day off and I'm stuck here at work for the day, and that day is packed with meetings.

At least, that's what Rosie thinks.

IU has given me the day off for a very good reason I have her. I'm currently driving over to Rosie's teenage...hood house aka where Clare lives and I'm going to ask her permission to marry her youngest daughter. I'm very fucking nervous and I don't even know why because Clare has talked about us getting married since we were like 17.

I checked the time and saw it was 12:28pm, so Rosie would be eating her lunch and calling me. I waited for my phone to ring and as of right on cue, it did. I picked up,

"Hello?"

"Hey babe! I was just wanting to catch you when you're on your lunch break! How's your busy day been going?" Rosie asked me.

"I'm doing okay here, the old people are driving me crazy, but IU keeps me sane." I joked. I heard her laughter through my phone,

"Well that's good. Are you in a car? It sounds noisy." I didn't think she could hear that I was in a car, but I guess I was wrong.

"Um yea I'm just driving over to the ramen place to pick up my order I placed."

"Oh okay. How come you aren't eating the cafeteria food? You always say how much you like it." I internally wanted her to just shut up and stop asking questions, but I couldn't fucking say that obviously.

"Just felt like getting out of that damn building for a little bit." I nodded my head in approval at my great excuse.

"That's makes sense. Okay, I'll let you get your food and then get back to listen to boring people. I love you, text me whenever you can because I'm bored here alone with Hank."

"I'll try my best to see if I can text you, but no promises because I've been assigned to take a bunch of notes and stuff."

"Trying is all that matters. I love you!"

"Love you too Rosie, I'll see ya later." She said her final goodbye and then I hung up the phone just as I pulled into the driveway of Clare's house. I took a deep breath and grabbed the tiny black box and stuffed it in my pocket because I know Clare would want to see the ring. I walked up to the front door and knocked as I waited for her to answer it. The door soon opened,

"Alice?"

"Y/n! Hey, what brings you here?" Alice said with a smile. Didn't know she would be here today, but I guess that's fine.

"I just needed to get your mother's opinion on something; you can also give me yours. The more the merrier." I told her. She eyed me slightly and then stepped aside to let me in. I saw Clare sitting at the kitchen table doing a puzzle.

"Hey Clare!" I said happily as I approached the older woman. She looked up and smiled when she saw me,

"Y/n! Hello dear!" She came and wrapped me up in a hug and told me to take a seat, Alice taking the seat next to her mother as I sat across from the pair.

"So, I came here to ask you something," I started as I looked into Clare's eyes. I took another deep breath before continuing, "Okay, um." I was struggling with the words because it was such a big thing.

I was able to gather myself and I reached into my pocket and pulled out the small black box and set it on the table. Two gasps were heard as I then opened it towards them. I was watching their reactions and both of them started to get teary eyed. I took this as a good sign and asked the question,
