~chapter thirty-one~

3rd Person Pov:

"I'm not disliked by people." stated Giyuu, his blue eyes practically glued on the female Pillar. "Ah, that... I'm sorry, so you didn't realize you were being disliked. Pardon me for saying too much." said Shinobu, causing the Water Pillar to think for a few seconds.

"Boy." he called out to Tanjiro. "Yes?" he asked, a bit startled and confused by all of this. "Boy, you're protecting a Demon. It's dangerous, so please get your friend and yourself off of her." she stated.

Tanjiro quickly said: "N-No! Well, you're not wrong, but, uh, this is my little sister. That's why-" Shinobu cut him off by saying: "Well, is that so? What a pity. Okay, then I'll kill her with a sweet poison that won't leave her in pain."

At that, Tanjiro's eyes widened. "Can you move?" asked Giyuu, his back facing him. "Even if you can't, force yourself to move. Take your sister and run." Tanjiro was taken back by this. "Wh-What about (Y/N)?" he asked, eyeing the Pillar with wide eyes.

"I said it before. I'll protect her, no matter the circumstances." "Tomioka-san..." With that, Tanjiro got up, carrying Nezuko with him, saying: "I'm sorry! Thank you so much!" And just like that, he ran away from Shinobu.

While he was running, Nezuko woke up, looking up at her older brother. It was then that they were being attacked once more. This time, it was a younger female, around the same age that Tanjiro was.

In mere seconds, she had pushed Tanjiro to the ground, separating the siblings. Then, she stood over Nezuko, about to slash her with her sword. But of course Tanjiro wouldn't let her, so, he pulled her back by her Haori, calling: "Run, Nezuko! Run!"

The female Demon Slayer had enough, quickly knocking poor Tanjiro out. She went after Nezuko, slashing her blade towards her neck. Nezuko, however, shrunk in size, making the blade miss.

Meanwhile, Tomioka held Shinobu under his arm, as to stop her from attacking him. She said: "I'm in the right for coming to kill Demons. So I don't think I'm violating the rules. But Tomioka-san, this is a violation of Hunters conduct."

He kept quiet, not saying a single word. "You're obstructing the Demon killing. What do you intend on doing?" Again, he didn't answer her. "Why don't you try saying something?" asked Shinobu, her temper starting to show.

He finally spoke up: "I believe it was two years ago..." "This is going to be a problem if you're going to start from such a long time ago. This is harassment. You just have a grudge because I said that nobody likes you, right?"

He was taken back by that, and she took her chance, about to slam the blade hidden in her shoe into his head. "Message! Message!" yelled a crow, stopping their fight. "We have a message! Restrain the ones named Tanjiro, (Y/N), and Nezuko. Bring them to headquarters!" it spoke.

"Tanjiro, (Y/N), as well as the Demon Nezuko! Restrain them and bring them to headquarters! Tanjiro has a scar on his forehead! (Y/N) wears a (f/c) Haori! The Demon Nezuko is biting onto a piece of bamboo!" That's what all the crows were saying, making sure that everyone heard it.

Tomioka let go of Shinobu, kneeling down next to his sister. "Shinobu." he said, gaining her attention. "She's been bitten by a spider and was constantly coughing up blood. Can you treat her?" Shinobu hesitated for a moment, noting the color of the girl's Haori.

"Please." he tried again, his tone showing a bit of worry. At that, she immediately started to do the best she could. "Is this (Y/N)?" she asked, giving the girl a bit of antidote. Giyuu answered: "Yes. But please don't restrain her."

Shinobu furrowed her brows, saying: "But we've been ordered-" "I know. But whatever happens, she won't break another rule with me there." he said, cutting her off. Shinobu started to wrap her wounds up, noting: "You seem to know her well."

"She's my little sister." he admitted, his eyes fixed on the unconscious girl. At that, Shinobu stopped her movements, looking at the girl, then at the man next to her. "Your... sister?" she repeated, her mind trying to process this.

He merely nodded, and she let out a heavy sigh, saying: "I never imagined you having a kid sister. Anyway, she should be stable for whatever comes in the headquarters. Just make sure that she doesn't move too quickly and that she gets to my estate as soon as possible."

Giyuu nodded, gently lifting (Y/N) into his arms. "Thank you." he said, starting to head back. Shinobu was left stunned, still not quite believing what had just happened. He seemed like a completely different person to her just now. But she shrugged it off, quickly following him.

Time skip: at the Headquarters

(Y/N) Pov:

I opened my eyes, having to close them again due to the bright sunlight. Then, I slowly sat up, feeling almost every bone and muscle hurting. I let out a gasp as soon as I saw the person that was lying a little away from me. "T-Tanjiro?" I asked out loud.

That made all of the people there look at me. It was only now that I realized something. "Wh-Where am I?" I asked, looking at all of the people there. I've never met any of them before, so why- "(Y/N)." said someone, gaining my full attention.

I turned to look at him, seeing Onii-chan kneeling next to me. I looked at him in confusion, asking: "What's happening here? I don't get any of this. What happened to Tanjiro?" Then, my eyes widened as I looked around, trying to spot the familiar wooden box.

"Where's Nezuko?!" I asked, louder than intended. I looked back at Onii-chan, asking: "She didn't... She didn't get into the sunlight, right? Right?!" He shook his head, making me sigh in relief. "Thank god..."

"I don't get why you two aren't restrained." said someone, making my head snap up to him. He was sitting in a tree, bandages covering the lower half of his face. There was also a snake with him.

I stood up, saying: "I'm sorry if I'm being rude, but I really don't get any of this." while looking up at the stranger with a puzzled expression. "My, what a cute girl!" said a woman with pink hair that faded to green. She smiled kindly at me, which I returned a little.

I don't get this. What in the world is happening? "Don't act all cute. You and that boy there were travelling with a Demon." noted the one that was still on the tree. He had black hair, and two different colored eyes.

I bowed down to him, saying: "I'm really sorry about that. But we had a good reason not to kill her." "Nothing justifies traveling with a Demon." he said, his eyes narrowing on me. 

"How long are you gonna sleep? Get up already! The Pillars are now present!" yelled someone, gaining our attention. That man woke Tanjiro up. I immediately went to his side, helping him to sit up. "(Y/N)...? What's going on?" he asked, making me say: "I think we'll find out soon enough."
