3rd Person Pov:
After listening to what Giyuu had to say, Tanjiro was speechless. Giyuu thought that he would be better of dead, and that Sabito should have survived instead of him.
Tanjiro understood him well, as he, too had felt like that at some point. He was so mad at himself for not being home when his family was slaughtered, even if he knew that he couldn't have done anything to save them.
And even (Y/N) had felt like that before. When Rengoku had died, she was devastated, stating that he should've just let her die in order for him to survive.
Thinking about it all once more, Tanjiro finally came up with something to say. He really wanted to ask the water Hashira one question. And so he did.
"Giyuu-san?" he asked, to which the Hashira didn't reply. He simply continued his way, not wanting to be pestered even more. "Giyuu-san... (Y/N) said that she wants to be as strong as Sabito. Isn't whatever Sabito entrusted to you keeping you three together?"
Flashback:
Falling to the ground, young Giyuu held onto his cheek, a surprised expression on his face as he looked up at Sabito, who had just slapped him. "S... Sabito...." he trailed of.
The young, peach haired boy said: "Don't say that you'd be better of dying ever again. If you do, you and I are done. We'll stop being friends." Giyuu could do nothing but to stare, not daring to interrupt the angered boy in front of him.
Sabito continued: "Your older sister was supposed to get married the next day. And despite knowing that, she hid you from the Demons and protected you. You have nobody else...? That's an insult to your older sister."
Giyuu teared up, remembering the horrible, horrible night he lost his beloved family. "You can't die. Ever. That life she lost to protect you? That future she left for you? They're still with you, Giyuu."
Present:
Lowering his head, Giyuu lifted his hand up to his cheek, where Sabito had slapped him years ago. How could he forget? How could he forget such important words?
Tanjiro, however, interpreted everything completely wrong. So, in hopes to change Giyuu's mind, he wanted to suggest a speed-eating contest. Just to cheer him up!
Giyuu said: "Tanjiro, sorry for the delay, but I'll go train as well-" Tanjiro quickly cut Giyuu off by asking: "Giyuu-san, want to have a cold Soba eating contest with me?" The water Hashira looked at him with a 'what, why?' expression. But in the end, they held the contest anyways.
Somewhere else:
Walking through her estate without a word, the insect Hashira approached a shrine, sitting down in front of it. She was extremely angered, yet tried to hide it.
"Master, you're back? I'm going to train with the wind Hashira now." said a higher voice, belonging to none other than Kanao. She was sitting by the doors, smiling sweetly at Shinobu.
"Okay." replied Shinobu absentmindedly, taking in a deep breath. Kanao, not picking up on the Hashiras current mood, asked: "Master, can I receive training from you after I'm done with the rock Hashira?"
After a bit of hesitation, Shinobu said: "I cannot participate in this Hashira training session." "Eh... Why thought...?" Turning around to face the young girl, Shino said: "Kanao. Come here."
Kanao complied, now sitting right in front of Shinobu. She quietly said: "Uh, er... I just want to train with my master." Hearing that, Shinobu smiled, noting: "Kanao, you've really come around. Being honest with your feelings is a good sign. Maybe this is a good time."
She took in another, deep breath, then calmly said: "The Demon who killed my sister Kanae. How about I tell you how to kill it."
(Y/N) Pov:
I stood next to Uzui-san as he berated some Demon Slayers. "You can't even run 100 laps? Yeah, you're all gonna die within the first 10 minutes. And that's if you're lucky to last that long!" he said, shaking his head in disapproval.
They groaned as they each were dismissed, finally allowed to take a break and sleep for the night. "Well then. Want to go over the breathing techniques again, kid?" he asked, to which I happily nodded, saying: "Gladly."
And just like that, two hours had passed. I was panting, trying to even my breathing as Uzui-san said: "Yep, that's it. You're this close from mastering the Sound Breathing."
I returned his smile, saying: "One step closer, huh?" "You bet. Now come in, Hinatsuru made dinner." he said, starting to walk towards his estate. I hesitated for a moment, then asked: "Are you sure? Am I really allowed to enter your estate?"
He chuckled, glancing back at me, saying: "I can do what I want here. I can train these brats the way I seem fit. And if I want to take my best student inside to have a good rest, then I sure as hell can do so."
With a smile on my face, I said: "Alright. Thank you very much, Uzui-san!" "It's my pleasure! You don't always encounter someone as flamboyant as you every day." he replied. "You're flattering me." With that, we headed inside the estate.
"Oh? (Y/N)? You're eating with us, too?" asked Suma-san, to which Makio-san said: "Of course she is, you blockhead!" "Tengen-sama! Makio-san is bullying me!" cried Suma-san, causing Makio-san to roll her eyes.
"Don't pay them any mind, (Y/N). Please come over here and have a seat." offered Hinatsuru-san, motioning me to come over. I did so, thanking her before taking a seat.
Not much later, the others were sat, too, and we could start eating. It was seriously amazing! "Wow, this is so good! Thank you for inviting me!" I said, enjoying every bite.
Chuckling, Uzui-san said: "It's fine." "Mhm! We love having you over, (Y/N)." said Hinatsuru-san, smiling at me. Suma-san nodded, adding: "You're so polite and cute!"
I looked down for a moment, then said: "I really have to thank all of you. This is amazing. It feels like... like a real family." Gasping, Suma-san broke out in tears, saying: "You're so kind, (Y/N)! Waaaah!"
"Where'd this sentimental stuff come from all of a sudden?" asked Uzui-san, causing me to chuckle. "I'm sorry. It just spilled out, I guess." Suma-san, still crying, asked: "Uzui-san, can we adopt her?! Pretty please!"
Taken back by what she said, I asked: "Wh-What? But..." Uzui-san laughed a bit, placing his hand on top of my head, saying: "I'm a bit too young to have a kid of your age. But if that kid was you, (Y/N), I wouldn't mind."
