~Chapter six~

Tanjiro Pov:

"That fox mask is a mark. I remember the style Urokodaki uses when carving the masks. The Tengu mask he wears is carved the same way. It's called 'Mask of disaster prevention' or something, right? It was because they were wearing it, that they were eaten. They're all in my stomach. It's as if Urokodaki killed them himself." said the Demon. My eyes widened. That's not true. You were the one that killed them! "When I said these words, that little girl was so angry, she had tears shining at the corners of her eyes. After that, her movements became rigid. So I plucked off her arms and legs." That's it! I stormed forwards, slashing through a few of his arms. I managed to slice some of them off, but he hit me, too. He slammed one of his hands into my side, sending me flying into a tree. I fell down, hearing that my mask broke. "Tanjiro!" I opened my eyes at the female voice, quickly dodging. The Demon went to attack me again, but before he could reach me, it's arms were sliced off cleanly. "I will never forgive you. You've caused Sensei grief, you've killed so many children... You killed Sabito-nii and Makomo. You're gonna pay!" yelled (Y/N), rushing in to attack again. I was about to help her, when I noticed a strange scent from the earth beneath me. I quickly jumped up, just in time to evade the hands that were about to kill me. He went to attack me with one arm, while fighting (Y/N) off with the others. I was quick to react and head butted his arm away. I then sliced a few of his hands off that were about to grab (Y/N). She then jumped back a little, saying: "I see it." I knew what she meant. The thread. I kept on fighting his hands off while (Y/N) jumped at him, yelling: "First style! Water Surface Slice!"

(Y/N) Pov:

I was panting as I landed, putting my sword back into it's sheath. I did it. I killed it. Sabito-nii... Makomo... Everyone... It's over. The Demon's gone now. I turned my head to look at it. But... Even though I wanted to laugh at him, even though I wanted to tell him that this was what he deserved... I couldn't. All I could do was to look at him with a sad expression. I want to yell at him, telling him that I won, but... Tanjiro held one of the Demon's hands, saying: "God, please allow this person to never become a Demon again when he reincarnates." I closed my eyes for a moment, then asked: "Tanjiro... Wh-Why can't I hate him?" I felt his hands on my cheeks. I opened my eyes, looking straight into his dark red ones. He answered: "Because you have a kind heart, (Y/N)." My heartbeat quickened as I gave him a small smile, saying: "Thank you..."

Time skip: seven days later

3rd Person Pov:

"Welcome back." said the black haired, doll-looking person. The white haired one said: "Congratulations. Being safe and sound is better than anything else." Tanjiro held (Y/N)'s hand, looking around. "There are only five people left?" he asked silently. (Y/N) nodded, saying: "And there were like 20 people here at the beginning." Tanjiro's expression turned into a worried one. The other three people were a girl with black hair, a boy with yellow hair that muttered: "Will die, will die, will die, will die, will die. Even if we survived, we'll still die in the end." And a boy with a scar on the side of his face. He asked: "Eh? Now what do I do? What about the blade?" The white haired doll-like person said: "You must first pay for the cost for the uniform. Then you must get your body measured and have your rank engraved." The black haired one said: "There are ten ranks in total. Mizunoto, Mizunoe, Kanoto, Kanoe, Tsuchinoto, Tsuchinoe, Hinoto, Hinoe and Kinoe. You are now at the lowest rank, Mizunoto." "What about the blade?" asked the male from before, kind of annoyed. The white haired one said: "Today, you will each choose a chunk of tamahagane alloy. Your blade will be completed within 10 to 15 days. Also, from now on, Kasugai Crows will be following you all day." With that, a bunch of crows appeared and each flew to their new partners. "Eh? A crow? Isn't this... isn't this a sparrow?" asked the yellow haired male, looking at his bird with wide eyes. (Y/N) looked around, then asked: "Uhm... Why didn't I get a crow?" The white haired one answered: "It seems that one of the crows that were send here got lost on its way. For now, you may share yours with that boy." She motioned to Tanjiro. (Y/N) nodded her head, saying: "Okay." (Y/N) and Tanjiro eyed the crow, both of them petting it. The black haired one said: "Kasugai Crows are primarily used for communication."

Tanjiro Pov:

I watched as one of the survivors yelled: "I don't care about some dumb crow!" He then went up to the two that were giving us the information and grabbed the one with white hair, yelling: "What I want is the blade! Give me the blade right now! The blade of the Demon Hunters! The 'blade of color change'!" I decided to step in. I handed the crow to (Y/N), then went up to him and grabbed his arm, saying: "Let go of her this instant! If you don't let go, I'll break your arm!" "Huh? Who are you? You can try if you dare!" I tightened my grip, then let go. He held his arm, glaring at me. I returned the glare, not saying a word. Then, the black haired girl said: "Are you done? If so, please go over there, and choose the alloy that will be used to create your blade. The alloy for the blade that will be used to destroy Demons and protect yourself will be chosen personally by each of you." I went back to (Y/N), taking her hand in mine again. We headed to the table with different stones. (Y/N) asked: "Which one should I take?" while looking at them. I thought for a second, too, then looked at one. I reached out and picked it up, saying: "I'll take this one." (Y/N) hummed, picking one up, too. She showed it to me, a wide smile on her face. "And I'll take this one." I returned the smile.
