(Y/N) Pov:
Panting heavily, I blocked the incoming attack, trying my all to push the sword of my opponent back. "Don't lose your focus. Keep the breathing up." he told me, making me nod, taking in a certain breath.
Okay, I think I got this. With all of my strength, I pushed his sword away with mine, my eyes wide for a few seconds. Then, I dropped my sword, holding my arms in the air to celebrate. "I did it! Yes!" I called out, smiling brightly.
Rengoku-Sensei smiled at me, saying: "You did well. I see that you can use the constant full concentration breathing quite well by now." I picked my sword up, putting it back in its sheath.
"Yeah, it's not as hard as I thought it'd be. I think I accidentally used it during the final selection." I admitted, grinning lightly. "That's good to hear, then. You can rest for the reminder of the day. Starting tomorrow, I'll show you how to use the flame breathing." stated Rengoku-sensei. I nodded at him, saying: "Alright."
Time skip: nighttime
A sigh escaped my lips as I finally gave up on trying to sleep. It's strange, but it feels like someone's constantly watching me. But that can't be the case. I haven't spotted anyone yet, and my eyesight is pretty good.
I left my room, silently walking towards the garden, where I usually train. It's quite nice here. The old fashioned style of the whole house and garden remind me of my first home. I sat onto the porch, gazing up at the night sky.
Closing my eyes, I released a quiet sigh, saying: "Training is so exhausting~" "The way you do it, it is." spoke a voice I didn't recognize. My eyes immediately snapped open, staring right into blood red ones.
My body tensed up as I tried grabbing my sword, realizing that I didn't have it with me. "Too bad you don't have your cute little sword with you, huh? But don't worry. It's not like you could have done anything to prevent this." said the Demon, slowly reaching out to me.
For some reason, I couldn't move. That voice, those eyes... "You're..." I started, my eyes widening once more. He clapped a few times, saying: "You finally recognized me? How nice of you, (Y/N)." Finally having enough strength in my body, I stumbled backwards, searching for literally anything that I could use as a weapon.
The Demon just grinned, laughing out loud once he saw the panic in my eyes. He then suddenly appeared in front of me, lifting me up by my neck. I immediately tried to get his grip to losen, but of course it did nothing. He's a Demon, after all.
He chuckled, saying: "Come on, make this a little more fun for me. Unlike your brother." My eyes teared up as the memories rushed through my mind. "Hm... What was his name again? Shousei? Kenya?" he asked, a mocking tone in his voice.
"Sh-Shinya..." I breathed out, my grip slowly loosening. "Ah, right! He was such a waste to kill, honestly. Didn't even scream once. At least that woman was entertaining to kill." "Mom..." He laughed out loud once again, his glowing eyes practically piercing my soul.
With my last strength, I took in a certain breath, then tightened my grip on his arm, managing to twist it enough to make him lose his grip on my neck. I fell to my knees, gasping for air. "I like women that fight back, you know~" he told me, kicking me once.
I fell back into the garden, feeling something laying in the grass next to me. A branch. I quickly grabbed it, jumping to my feet. "How are you still alive? I saw you dying!" I said, louder than necessary, hoping to alert Rengoku-sensei.
The Demon tilted his head to the side, seemingly lost in thoughts. "Oh, that? That wasn't me. It was my brother. He was mad at me for not letting him kill your mother, so he tried to at least kill you. But, as you said, he died." he explained, his eyes glued on me.
I tightened my grip around the branch, saying: "You want me to fight? Then come." The Demon licked his lips, slowly walking towards me. Okay, I can do this. I've fought Demons before. I focused, then took in a certain breath, the majority of the branch catching fire.
"First Form, Unknown Fire." I said, unleashing the attack. I managed to hit him, slicing one of his arms off. He stared at where I was just seconds ago, then slowly turned around, his grin wide. "You managed to hurt me with a mere branch? How intriguing!" he called out, laughing again as his arm had already grown back.
I stared at him in disbelief, backing away. "Come on, (Y/N). Let me kill you. If you don't he will do everything he can to have you killed." At those words of his, I paused. "You mean Kibutsuji, right?" I asked, throwing the burned branch to the side.
He chuckled once more, saying: "What a smart girl you are~ Yes, him. Do you know why I killed your mother and brother back then?" I hesitated, then slowly shook my head. His grin widened as he said: "Well, it's pretty simple, really."
I took another step back, keeping my eyes focused on his every movement. He continued: "My task was to kill you and your brother. But I couldn't hold back once I realized that your mother had rare blood."
"Why would you-" I tired to ask, but he continued anyway: "Your father, Kei (L/N), was a very, very special man, you know. Not only him. The majority of his whole bloodline was. They were able to easily master more than one breathing technique. So, he killed them."
My father... Was a Demon Slayer, too? This is... "We later learned that he had two kids, who might be able to do what he did, so you had to die." he finished, stepping closer to me. I backed away, my back hitting the wall to the house behind me.
"I knew your brother wasn't as powerful as you. He couldn't do what you are able to do." he stated, now only a single step away from me. I asked: "What do you mean?" To that, he leaned closer, taking in my scent.
"You're an unlucky child. Cursed with rare blood AND those beautiful, (e/c) eyes. Those sharp, (e/c) eyes that all your skilled ancestors had." he spoke, opening his mouth, showing his teeth. Shinya had... He had our mother's eyes. So he killed him, knowing that he never possessed this ability?
I felt how his sharp teeth sunk into my shoulder, immediately drawing blood. I hissed out in pain, trying to pry him off of me, but he kept me in place. "L-Let me go!" I called out, gritting my teeth.
He chuckled lowly, licking some of my blood. "Please, someone! Help! He-!" I yelled, only for him to cover my mouth with his hand. "I did want you to scream, but there still is a Hashira here, so let's keep this silent." he said, smirking.
"Third form: Blazing Universe!" called someone, and a moment later, fire had separated the Demon and me. I was breathing heavily as I looked up at my savior. "Are you alright, (Y/N)?" asked Rengoku-sensei. "Y-Yes." I answered, quickly looking over at the Demon.
