~Chapter four~

Tanjiro Pov:

"You flatter me! Thank you for this care you've shown me, you really think you're able to injure me." said that Sabito, swinging his sword at me. I blocked and he said: "You don't have to worry at all. I'm stronger than you! Because I can slice that rock open!" Slice the rock open?! He can do that?! "You didn't learn anything. You haven't turned anything you've been shown into your own skills. Especially the breathing technique Urokodaki-Sensei has taught. 'Concentrated Breathing'." He knows Urokodaki-san?! Right, (Y/N) did say he was her brother. So he studied under him, too? He said: "You've only memorized it like some trivial fact. Your body hasn't experienced it at all. I'll make your flesh and your blood remember it well. All of it. All of it. All of it! I'll make you never forget the secret techniques Urokodaki has taught you! I'll implant them inside your bone marrow." He attacked once again, and I blocked it. "I am learning. I learn every day. I'm doing the best to learn with my life! But right now I don't know what to do at all... I can't move forward." I said. "Move forward! If you're a man, if you're a true man, if you want to protect (Y/N), you don't have any other chance except moving forward! Bring it on! Let me witness it. Your power!" I blocked yet another of his attacks as he spoke. But then, as I was about to slash, he smacked my chin with his wooden sword. I fell to the ground, only hearing a faint: "Tanjiro! Hey, Tanjiro!" before passing out.

(Y/N) Pov:

Not good! Not good at all! I immediately kneeled down next to him, pulling his head on my lap. I sighed, saying: "Thank god you're not hurt that badly..." "I'll leave it to you, then." I heard Sabito-nii say. "Yes." answered a female voice. I turned my head and quickly called: "Wait! Sabito-nii, please wait!" He stopped his movements, then turned to face me. "I guess I could spend a minute or two with you..." He chuckled lightly as I said: "Ten." "Fine. Ten, but none more." "I get it, I get it. Now, come here, please." Without missing a second, Sabito-nii walked up to me, sitting down. "It's been a while, huh?" he asked. I giggled lightly, putting my head on his shoulder. I said: "I missed you so much. All I wanted was to see you again. To tell you that I miss you, Sabito-nii." He kissed my forehead, quickly putting his mask back on. I smiled at him. "I still can't believe you've grown that much. I mean, you were so tiny, but now... Well, you're still small, but you get the point." I pouted, saying: "Sabito-nii, you're being mean!" He ran his fingers through my (h/c) hair, asking: "How's it been?" "Hm? Oh, well... It's been great, really. I learned a lot from Sensei, but I don't want to move on without Tanjiro." "So you mean you can already slice the rock?" I nodded, smiling at him. "I did learn from the three of you, so..." He chuckled, saying: "That's my little sister!" "Sabito." We turned to face the girl he talked to before. "Don't disturb now, Makomo. Give me a bit time." said Sabito-nii, clearly annoyed. I combed my fingers through Tanjiro's hair, admiring how calm he looked. "Maybe it's better if you don't spend too much time with her." she said with her soft voice. I didn't look up as Sabito-nii got clearly irritated. "What? But (Y/N)'s my little sister! Of course I want to spend time with her!" "I can understand how you feel, but consider her feelings, too." I glanced at them, then looked back down at Tanjiro. A small smile was present on my lips as I said: "I don't mind." "Huh? What?" asked Sabito-nii. "I don't mind it when you leave now. Of course it'll be hard to accept that you're gone again, but... I've managed once before." "(Y/N)... I can see that you don't want me to go. I can tell just by looking at you. And you know as well as I do that there's a huge difference in today than that day." I nodded slowly, looking at him. "Onii-chan isn't here. He's busy with work. But..." I looked back down, smiling. "I've got Tanjiro at my side now. He won't hurt me. I know that." "I'll see for myself if he's allowed to stay with you." I giggled at his protectiveness. "You have to go now, right?" I asked. He patted my head before quickly leaving. I smiled softly, trying not to cry. I'll be as strong as Sabito-nii... That's what I promised. So I can't cry. No matter what.

Tanjiro Pov:

"Are you all right?" I opened my eyes at the unknown voice, staring into a pair of (e/c) ones. "(Y/N)? Did your voice change?" I asked, confused. She shook her head, smiling. "Of course not, dummy." I noticed that I was laying on something soft, then realized it was (Y/N)'s lap. A small blush crept onto my face as I sat up, looking at the unknown girl in front of us. Then, I remembered what happened. "Did you see that move just now? That was an awesome strike! No hesitating or unnecessary moves at all. Very clean! I want to be able to move like that, too. I can do it, right? That move just now..." I said, looking back and fourth between the two girls. The new girl smiled, saying: "Of course you can. I'll be there to witness it." She's so cute... I glanced at (Y/N). But (Y/N)'s cuter. Then, I remembered that I didn't know the girl, so I asked: "Who are you?"

I learned that her name was Makomo. She pointed out the places that I was lacking. She helped me adjust my many unnecessary moves and bad personal habits. As to why she is willing to do is, or where she came from, I was unable to get an answer even after asking her. "We all adore Urokodaki-Sensei." That sentence was Makomo's constant refrain. I asked: "Why don't you teach (Y/N)?" She glanced at her, then said: "(Y/N)-chan, your strength lies within your speed and agility. But you lack strength. You should focus on your muscles more." (Y/N) nodded at Makomo's words, immediately starting her training.
