Tanjiro Pov:
I stared at her back as she prepared breakfast. Her every move was careful and silent. She's just as silent as Urokodaki. It's kind of strange... A sigh escaped her pink lips as she turned to look at me, her (h/c) hair moving slightly. Her (e/c) eyes were sparkling as a bright smile was present on her lips. "We'll be training together soon, you know." she said. I only nodded. She turned back around, continuing her work. "Say, what's your name?" she asked after a few moments of silence. "Tanjiro Kamado." "Tanjiro, huh? What about your sister?" "She's Nezuko. What's your name?" "Ah, right. I'm (Y/N). Nice to meet you, Tanjiro." She turned a little, giving me another, bright smile of hers. I couldn't help but to smile back at her. The presence she's giving off is a nice and warm one. It feels comfortable.
A few minutes later, she put a plate in front of me before walking towards the door. I heard her call: "Sensei! Breakfast's ready!" Sensei? As she got back, she sat down on the chair opposite of mine. "Thank you for the food." I took a bite and asked: "Is Urokodaki-san your teacher?" She glanced up at me, asking: "Why do you ask?" "Because you call him 'Sensei'." "Oh, that's because I lived here for years already. And he thaught me a lot. I guess I was just used to what the others called him." The others? Before I could ask her more questions, Urokodaki-san joined us and sat on the chair next to hers. "Thank you for the food." he said as he put his mask up a bit, starting to eat immediately.
Time skip:
(Y/N) Pov:
"I am a cultivator. Like what the word describes, I cultivate swordsmen. There are a lot of cultivators who cultinate a variety of techniques in a variety of places." explained Sensei. "If one wants to enter the Demon Slayer Corps then they must survive in the Final Selection on Fujikasaneyama." My body froze as he mentioned the Final Selection. I felt his eyes on me and quickly shook my head, smiling like I usually do. I'll stay strong. I promised. He continued: "I get to decide whether you are allowed to enter the Final Selection." We both nodded. I looked at Tanjiro, saying: "Let's do our best, then." "Yes!" We smiled at each other.
"(Y/N), are you sure you want to join the Demon Slayer Corps?" I looked up at Sensei, saying: "I know what you're thinking. I mean, I know what I'm thinking, too, but..." I smiled sadly at him. "I promised. I promised to stay strong. I can't lie to Onii-chan, now can I?" I giggled lightly. Then, Sensei put a hand on my head. I looked up at him again as he said: "You've grown so much. I have second thaughts, too, but I do believe that you can make it." "I did get to watch my brothers train a lot, so I think I should be fine. I'm more worried about Tanjiro." "Don't be. He should be just fine. I can tell that he'll be strong." I gave Sensei a close eyed smile and said: "Okay. Thank you, Sensei!"
~Tanjiro's Diary~
I began writing a diary today for Nezuko.
(Y/N) and I descended the mountain today as well. Training ourselves hard everyday so that we won't die during the Final Selection.
I was slowly able to avoid the traps from descending the mountain everyday repeatedly. (Y/N) always teased me since she could make out the traps with her great eyesight. The change in the atmosphere was nice, though.
Our stamina was not the only thing that increased. My nose is able to detect smells even swifter than before. And her eyes seem to be picking up more, as well.
However, the difficulty of the traps began to slowly increase. And are filled with a heavy stench of killing intend.
Today we took our blades with us to descend the mountain. This is really annoying. If my hands were empty, then I wouldn't get tangled with the traps.
Today is sword swinging. However, compared to today, it's more like I'm swinging my sword everyday recently. After descending the mountain, we still continue to use our drop dead tired hands to swing repeatedly.
At the beginning, he told us that the blade is easily snapped.
Even though the force of the strike of swinging vertically is strong, the force of swinging horizontally is very weak.
When using a blade, one must swing along with the blade. The position of the blade, and the direction one applies the force to swinging the blade must be exactly the same.
Also, blades can be worn down as well. Which means that if our blades snap, our bones will snap as well. That's the slight threat that we got from him anyways.
Today is a wrestling festival. A training devised to allow us to get up quickly no matter what position we fell to the ground.
I held my blade and swung it at Urokodaki-Sensei. Urokodaki-Sensei uses only his hands, without any weapons. He's really strong. I always fall to the ground after being flung out. (Y/N) seemes to be a lot faster than me, but even she couldn't beat him.
Today we practiced breathing and positions to do it in. He got angry due to me not putting in strength towards my abdomen and started slapping my stomach. But she was really good at it. It's like (Y/N) was training for a lot longer than me.
Also, Nezuko has lost consciousness for almost half a year.
Even though Urokodaki-Sensei asked for a doctor for a diagnosis immediately, there weren't any signs of irregularity. But the fact that she continued to sleep itself shows that something is irregular.
I'm afraid...
That she would wake one morning and just die like that.
That's right, I don't have any time to think anymore. Besides, (Y/N)'s really cheering me on. Without her help, I might've already given up.
Our training of descending the mountain needs to be conducted in more dangerous and more oxygen lacking places.
We thought a bunch of times that we were going to die here.
(Y/N) Pov:
"I don't have anything more to teach you." said Sensei. "Eh?" asked Tanjiro while he was panting heavily. I was leaning onto him, panting heavily, as well. After one year...?
He told us to follow him, which we did. I think I know what we have to do now. While we were walking, Sensei said: "From now on, you're going to have to prove yourself. See if you can improve yourself upon the basics I have taught you." We stopped in front of a big boulder. My eyes widened slightly. It's the same test that my brothers took! "If you are able to hack this rock in half, then I will allow you to join the Final Selection." I nodded, a determined look on my face. I'm not going to lose. I won't lose. I knew what Tanjiro was thinking, but I didn't care. "Urokodaki-san! please wait just a moment! Urokodaki-san!" he called, but Sensei didn't turn around. I knew that. He returned without them that time, too. As I was about to slash at the boulder, a thought crossed my mind.
'What if you don't make it?'
I stopped my movements for a moment. I shook my head, then slashed down at the boulder. The blade bounced straight off and I was left on the ground. I stared at the boulder. I... didn't make it. What if Tanjiro makes it and goes to the Final Selection alone? What if he dies there? I couldn't save him. I couldn't save anyone. But I wanted to be like Sabito-nii... That doesn't work if I can't cut this boulder. I can make it. Right? I mean, I CAN make it! ...Right...?
