~chapter thirty-four~

(Y/N) Pov:

"Come over here, Demon! Here's some of your favorite human blood!" called Sanemi, my eyes widening. He stabbed the box again, then removed the lid. Nezuko slowly got up, glaring at him. He just smirked, holding his bleeding arm in front of her.

I tightened my hands into fists, stepping forwards. "Leave her be! This is-" I was cut off by being pushed to the ground. I gasped as I made impact with the ground, glancing up at the one who held me down.

It was the one with yellow-red hair, saying: "I am sorry, but I cannot allow you to interfere." I struggled greatly against his grip, but what could I possibly do? I just lack the strength to get free. "Please..." I muttered out, looking back at Nezuko.

Then, I got an idea. I can use a breathing technique to strengthen myself! I concentrated, then did so. I was able to move again, managing to get out of his grip. I stepped forwards again, but suddenly lost all of my strength.

It was getting harder and harder to breathe, and I felt how my body started to burn. Despite that, I took another step, almost falling down, but I managed to somehow stay standing. I took in some deep, sharp breaths, trying to calm myself down, but it didn't work.

"(Y/N), don't push yourself too hard. You're still-" "No!" I called, cutting Onii-chan off. He pulled me back by my wrist, making me sit down. I tried to resist, but it did nothing. "Kamado-kun, your lungs are under pressure, so if you use your breaths, your blood vessels will explode." said the butterfly lady, gaining my attention.

"Tanjiro!" I said, my eyes widening at his state. This isn't good! At this rate, he'll... Trying to stand up again, I held onto Onii-chan, saying: "Let Tanjiro go!" But I failed, having to sit back down again.

3rd Person Pov:

Right before anything could have gone way wrong, the water Pillar stopped the serpent Pillar by lifting his arm off of the young Demon Slayer. He immediately gasped for air, crawling forward towards his sister.

"Nezuko!" he called out, making her look over at him. It was then that she remembered what she was thought. 'Protect and serve humans. Don't hurt them. Never ever hurt them'.

So, she turned her head away, greatly surprising the wind Pillar. He just stared at her, his eyes wide. "What happened?" asked the head of the Demon Slayers. One of the doll-like girls answered him: "The Demon girl turned the other way."

"Even though Shinazugawa-sama cut himself three times, and thrust his arm in front of her, she held herself back and didn't bite him." Oyakata-sama smiled lightly, saying: "And that's proof that Nezuko will not attack humans right there."

Tanjiro and (Y/N) both held relieved expressions, happy that Nezuko proved the Pillars wrong. "Tanjiro, (Y/N), despite this, there will still probably be other people who won't willingly agree about Nezuko. You have to just prove that, from this point on, you and Nezuko can be useful enough to fight with the Demon Slayers." explained Oyakata-sama.

He had a small, gentle smile on his face as he said: "Defeat the 12 Kizuki. If you do that, then everyone will acknowledge you. And the gravity of your words will change." Tanjiro lifted his head, saying: "I- (Y/N), Nezuko, and I will defeat Muzan Kibutsuji!"

While Oyakata-sama appreciated the offer, he said: "You can't defeat him as you are now, Tanjiro. So first, try and defeat one of the 12 Kizuki." "Yes, sir." said Tanjiro, his face all red from the embarrassment.

"The Pillars have talents that naturally surpass you. They climbed their way up by training to the point they coughed blood, and they survived being on the verge of death. And they may even defeat the 12 Kizuki. That is exactly why the Pillars are to be respected and treated well. Tanjiro and (Y/N), you two should also be careful about how you speak to them." noted Oyakata-sama.

(Y/N) let out a small sigh, saying: "Okay." "And then. Sanemi, Obanai, don't bully the younger ones too much." "As you command." they both said, their heads hung low. Oyakata-sama then said: "So we're ending the talk about Nezuko here. You may step back now. It's about time to begin to the Pillar meeting."

Smiling brightly, the insect Pillar, Kocho Shinobu, said: "Okay then, let us take care of Kamado-kun and (L/N)-chan at my place." No one said anything to that, so she clapped her hands, declaring: "Okay, take them away!"

Without another second wasted, four of Shinobu's people came running, trying to get the two young Demon Slayer and Nezuko. One of them grabbed the box with Nezuko inside, closing the lid beforehand. Two were trying to pry Tanjiro with them, who refused, saying he wanted to fight the wind Pillar.

The last one went to (Y/N), saying: "Let's go." She hesitated, looking up at her older brother. He nodded at her, saying: "I'll come visit you." She smiled a little, saying: "Okay. Bye, Onii-chan!" The man from the Butterfly Estate then lifted her onto his back, starting to head towards his Colleges.

(Y/N) Pov:

"I'm sorry that we've caused you trouble." I said, making the man holding me nod slightly. "(Y/N), are you okay?" asked Tanjiro, gaining my attention. I smiled at him, answering: "I am. What about you?" He returned my smile, saying: "Me, too."

It was then that we had finally arrived at the Butterfly Estate. There was no one there, so they brought us into the beautiful garden. "Ah, there is someone." said the one carrying Tanjiro. I tilted my head a bit, asking: "Who's that?"

"You're supposed to call her Tsugoku." "Tsugoku?" asked Tanjiro. "That's Tsuyuri Kanao-sama. The Pillars personally look after the Tsugoku. She wouldn't have been chosen if she didn't have considerable talent nor excellent standing. She's a girl, but she's amazing."

"Oh, Tanjiro, she was at the Final Selection, too!" I noted, continuing to eye the girl. "Can we enter the Estate?" asked the one carrying Nezuko, but the girl didn't answer. "Can... we?" "Who are you?!" asked/yelled someone, catching all of us off guard.

We yelped as we turned to look at her. She had cute pigtails, and a stern expression. "You you 'Kakushi'?" she asked, eyeing all of us. "They're hurt, right? Come over here." With that, we were allowed to get into the Estate, where we were immediately greeted by very familiar yelling.
