It Was Only One Day

I was correct upon him calling me.

It made me jump

To hear my white cellphone ring.

I guess it's because I'm not used to it.

Nobody calls me much,

Except for Mikey.

He likes to chat sometimes.

Eager,

I answered the phone at

Hyperspeed,

"...Frankie?"

"Gerard! How are you?"

"I'm okay. How are you?"

"I'm fantastic, my first concert is tomorrow and I'm really excited."

I can hear him smiling

Through the speaker.

Even that

Made me smile.

"...Did you take your medicine?"

I was slightly embarrassed, "Oh..."

"Remember to take it!" He snapped, "take it right now!"

"Yeah, okay."

He heard me gulp

My tablets down

For proof.

"Did you put the cap upside down? Remember it's nighttime."

"I will."

He heard the tap

And the shake

Of the pill bottle hitting the counter.

"Gerard, you really need to remember."

"I will Franks, don't worry."

"But I have to worry, Gee. If you forget, God knows what would happen and I can't be there to stop you."

I went a little quiet after that.

"Please don't be angry..."

"I'm not. I just want to make sure you're okay."

"Okay."

And then the entire mood of the scene switched, as if nothing had happened,

"So, what's been happening?" He asked.

It's only been one day.

Jeez, Frank.

But...
"I'm painting a new picture."

"What is it?"

"I can't tell you." I teased.

I heard him laugh through the phone.

"Fine." he pouted playfully, "I'll just wait until I come back."

"Yeah, you're gonna have to." I laughed.

"I'll make sure you take your pills tomorrow," he said.

"Fine." I reply.

"But until then, all I can say is goodnight, and that I love you."

I smiled really wide through the phone, "goodnight, I love you too."

"I can hear you smiling through the phone." he gleamed.

"I could tell you were smiling the whole time," I giggled.

"You, sir, are indeed correct." he laughs.

"That's because I'm always correct."
I exclaim.

"That's true too," he acknowledges, "Gerard, my phone's dying, so I'm gonna have to hang up."

"That's okay." I tell him, "I love you."

"I love you too."

And he was gone.
