I got another call straight after.
Did Frank forget something?
Not bothering
To look at the ID,
(for I was positive it was Frank)
I answered it,
"Hey."
It wasn't Frank.
But I could tell in the voice that it was Pete.
"Pete? What's wrong?"
"Nothing, but Bert wants to talk to you."
I never gave him my number,
"Okay?"
Why was Bert with Pete in the first place???
Pete didn't like him!
"Gerard?"
"Yes, Bert?"
"Wanna go to a club tomorrow? Patrick and Pete can come too. I didn't mean to be arrogant earlier today.
I guess it's my way of saying I'm sorry."
That was probably why he was with him.
He was apologizing.
"My boyfriend's coming home tomorrow," I answer, "but I'll go as long as I don't stay too late."
"That's great!"
I can hear him cheering,
"But Bert, please give the phone to Pete."
"Okay."
There were those ruffling noises,
The ones where
Skin rubs against a microphone.
"...Pete?"
"Yeah?"
"Did Bert tell you about the party?"
"Yeah, but it's odd that he chose tomorrow. I heard you say that Frank was coming home."
I smiled,
Fantasizing over Frank's arrival.
"That's okay." I tell him.
"No, Bert's been acting off since you forgave him."
"He feels guilty."
"Gerard, I doubt that. The only reason why I'm coming to this place is because I have a really bad feeling about tomorrow."
"You're protecting me?!?" I ask.
"I really don't think you should be alone tomorrow."
I huff,
"I thought you were supposed to protect Pat!" I yell, "By the way, is he coming?"
"Of course I protect him! And yes he's coming!"
Silence.
I almost grew lost
In this vast whiteness.
"...Pete?" My face fell grim.
"What?"
"Are you saying all these things around Bert?"
It wouldn't be right
To say that about him.
"Gerard, I'm in the bathroom, it's okay."
I went into panic,
"What if he can hear you through the door?"
"It's okay! Calm down!"
I'm freaking out.
I was almost in tears.
What if he was hurt?
Pete could hear me.
"Gerard, please! I looked outside. He's sitting at a table. He's fucking content!"
I took a deep breath,
"Alright."
