Dinner is going well so far with Thor. I smile politely while he tells me stories of battles and his many great victories. I even laugh at his dumb jokes that no Midgardian could possibly understand.

He takes my hand before we go for another stroll around the palace.

"You look radiant this evening, Lady Krystal".

"You look rather handsome yourself. So is there any part of the palace you haven't showed me?"

"Only my chambers, but I am not certain that would be appropriate".

"Why? Do they not permit witches in the royal bed chambers?"

"I simply mean that you and I have not known one another for very long".

"After what happened to me last night, you really think I'm planning on spending the night with you?"

I act as though he's just offended me because he kind of did.

"I did not mean to cause you any offence".

"Didn't you? Just because we've kissed once, doesn't make me your whore".

"I never claimed that it did. Please forgive me, Lady Krystal".

"It's already bad enough you treat me like a dog you're taking for a walk with this damn thing on" I pull on the metal collar.

"That is the rule of the palace. I cannot change that".

"So your mother wears one, does she? Oddly enough I don't remember seeing one of these things around her neck?"

"She is the Queen of this land and Asgardian by birth".

"And I'm just some Midgardian witch, right? One that you still clearly don't trust, so you may as well take me back to my cell now and throw away the key".

"I do trust you".

"If you really trusted me then I would've gone to Hel by now and the threat to your kingdom would be over".

"I cannot send you there myself, that remains my father's decision. I have already informed him of my trust in you".

"Then why am I still here, Thor? What is it you're not telling me?"

He takes a deep breath as if he's admitting defeat because he knows I won't let this go. I'm too damn stubborn for that.

"My father wishes for you to stay, Krystal" he sighs.

"Why?"

"He believes you could be a valuable ally to this kingdom and that you risk being corrupted by the witch if you were to go to Hel".

"So was this all a trick?"

"He may have encouraged our friendship, but developing affections for you was no trick".

"You don't even know me, Thor".

"I want to know you, Krystal, and if you will allow it then I believe you could be truly happy here on Asgard".

"With you?"

"Yes".

"See, this just shows how little you know me. If I were to fall in love with you then you'll die. That's part of my curse, as well as the inability to have children. That's why she has to die by my hand".

"Why did you not tell me this sooner?"

"Because I don't trust you and with good reason, obviously. You were trying to manipulate me into staying here by getting me to spend time with you".

"It was never my intention to deceive you".

"I've spent the past fifty years of my life searching for her so that I can love again and have children of my own. That's my goal and I won't be stopped, even by the gods themselves".

"I understand, I really do and I will discuss this matter with my father".

"Thank you, but I'd like to go back to my cell now" I sigh in annoyance.

Thor takes me back, but I refuse to utter a single word to him the entire way back, even when he goes to leave the dungeon.

I'd held out some semblance of hope that he wasn't lying to me, but I'd been proved entirely wrong by his own admission.

"Fuck!" I scream and throw my chair against the wall.

"I take it that dinner went well?" Loki quizzes me sarcastically.

"Loki, open my cell!"

"Not unless you tell me what happened".

"I want out of this damn place".

"Why? There is nowhere for you to go. You are trapped here".

"Skurge said there's a map in your father's study and I'm going to go find it. Now let me out of here".

"You will not find my father's private study alone in a palace of this size".

"Then come with me and show me where it is".

"And why would I risk something as foolish as that?"

"If you do then I'll give you anything you want. I could compel all of Asgard to obey you and only you. King Loki".

"Interesting".

"Or perhaps Earth, if that's what you'd prefer? I could even make the Avengers your personal slaves?"

I was desperate at this point.

"I would much prefer it if you were to put your collar on like a good little pet, crawl over here and beg me for my help".

I'm definitely not feeling that desperate.

"I'd sooner die".

"Then have fun rotting away in that cell, little witch".

I try to think of any other incentives I could possibly offer him, but in truth I have nothing. If he didn't want Asgard or Earth then what does he want? Either way I was shit out of options.
