Needless to say that Loki and I have kept our distance from one another for the past few days while things settled down. It was probably for the best.
Today, when he returns, I'm expected to give Thor an answer. I knew exactly what I had to say to him, even if I didn't want to say it.
"Lady Krystal, I received word of what happened. Are you alright?' he asks once he finds me.
"Yes I'm perfectly fine, so is Loki".
"I am happy to hear that. It will be interesting to see Loki without a barrier between us".
Loki and I had been given separate bed chambers to stay in while what happened down in the dungeons was being investigated.
If you believe what had been found, then it would appear that one of the prisoners had somehow stolen a device from the guards.
Loki remained under close watch until further notice, but I had relatively free reign to go wherever I wanted to now.
"I know what my parents have asked of you, Krystal, and I would like you to know that I would never pressure you into a marriage that you did not want".
"I don't love you, Thor. If I'm truly honest with myself then I don't think I can ever love you, even when the curse is finally broken" I tell him truthfully.
"I understand" he says with a hurt expression.
"You were right before, about me and your brother, but you know I can't ever express my real feelings while I'm still cursed".
"It would have surprised me if I was not correct. I do however appreciate your honesty in the matter".
"Thor, I'm only telling you this because I wouldn't want our marriage to be built on lies".
"What are you saying?"
"I'll marry you, but only if you're willing to accept what I feel for your brother. I'll play the dutiful wife to make your parents and the people of this kingdom happy, but that's all it can ever be".
"How does Loki feel about this?"
"I told him I was going to agree to marry you, understandably he's pretty pissed at me right now. He knows you'll expect me to give you an heir at some point, so I can't exactly blame him".
"You would do that?"
"If agreeing to marry you gives me the chance to love again and have a baby, then I'd give you anything, just not my heart. I would never stop you from finding a love of your own either".
"I will have to give this some serious thought, Lady Krystal".
"I know".
I didn't even think he would let me get that far into the conversation before he had me dragged down the rainbow bridge and thrown through the Bifrost head first.

I walk the palace halls alone later that day and see Loki sitting in the gardens with Frigga, seemingly deep in conversation. I can't help but notice how sad he looks and that she appeared to be comforting him, like a good mother would.
"Lady Krystal" Odin startles me.
"Oh, King Odin, I was just taking a walk".
"Come, my dear, I will join you".
He takes my arm and we walk together in a tense silence for while.
"Have you made a decision regarding the engagement to my son?"
"I've spoken to Thor about it. He already has my answer".
"My wife seems under the impression that Loki may have developed affections for you during your stay in the dungeons. Do you believe that is true?"
"What makes her believe that?"
"He has changed since your arrival. He is more like the son we used to know and love before he became corrupted with greed and envy".
Oh shit, did he know something? Had Thor already talked to him?
"King Odin, it doesn't matter what anyone feels towards me because until this curse is gone I can't love anyone".
"My wife and I would like to believe that our son has changed enough so that he may no longer need to continue his stay in the dungeons. I would value your opinion on the matter".
"I don't really know what Loki was like before, but he's spoken of his love for his mother and I don't think he'd ever want to see her hurt".
"I see".
At great risk to myself, I decide to make a confession to make sure that Loki remains free.
"In a moment of panic, I wanted to escape the dungeons and I offered to give Loki something in return for helping me. He refused".
"What did you offer him?"
"Asgard, Earth, anything he wanted I would've given to him, but he refused. Does that sound like the son you knew before I arrived?"
"No, it most certainly does not".
