The Avengers are leaving today, apparently they're off on some important mission to another country somewhere, Sokovia or something, to retrieve a sceptre. Before they leave, they're meeting with Stephen in his study downstairs and as usual I'm too curious for my own good, so I've decided to listen in on their conversation.
"She isn't ready yet" Stephen tells them.
"You saw what she did out there yesterday. If she's not ready now, then she'll never be ready" Tony replies.
"She let her emotions get the better of her. It happens to the best of us sometimes" Natasha says.
"One slip up on a mission could cost countless innocent civilians their lives. Strange is right, she's not ready" Clint gets his point across.
"We barely know her yet and we can't work as a team without that trust" Bruce finally speaks.
"I'm going to disagree. Trust needs to be earned and she can't do that if we don't at least give her a shot. I think she could be good for the team" Steve sticks up for me.
"Perhaps with more time she may be ready, but it is still too soon. She is perfectly safe and happy where she is for the time being" Thor seems very opinionated on the subject.
"Well as you've all seen yesterday, she shows great promise so far" Stephen sounds proud.
I decide to stop letting others speak for me, so I knock on the door and walk in there confidently.
"Star, I told you to wait upstairs" Stephen looks unhappy with me, like I'm some kid that's misbehaving.
"This will just take a second, I promise. I wanted to come in here and tell you all that I'm not ready to be a part of The Avengers, or at least not yet anyway. I don't even know who I am or who I'm supposed to be yet, so I can't expect any of you to know either. What I do know is that I don't need any of you to sit around here deciding my fate for me, or tell me when I'm ready. When I'm ready you'll know it too because I'll tell you myself".
Steve gives me a reassuring smile when I walk past him to leave. It's about time that I stopped letting everyone make decisions regarding my life.
If I wasn't the person I was before, then I had to build myself up into someone new that actually meant something.
I have these all of powers for a reason and when I'm ready, I want to use them to do good, just like I'd spent months training to do. I'll accomplish that whether I join The Avengers or not.
"May I speak with you?" Thor's voice comes from behind me while I'm getting myself a drink.
"Sure".
"You should be proud of yourself. That was quite the speech you just gave".
"Well I don't need six people that I've only just met yesterday making life altering choices for me, do I?"
"You most certainly do not, Lady Star".
"So you're a god from another world, right? What's that like?"
"Asgard is indeed a beautiful place and I do miss it when I travel here. Earth is under my protection as are all those upon it, including you of course".
"I'm honoured. Have you got a family to go back home to?"
"My mother and father. Then of course there is my younger brother".
"Sounds nice. I keep wondering if I've got a family out there somewhere that's missing me. Maybe that's whose voice I keep hearing when I sleep" I blurt out unintentionally.
"A voice you say?"
"I can hear a woman's voice in my dreams sometimes. At first I couldn't make out what she was saying to me, but now it's clear as day" I smile.
"What does she say to you?"
"She calls me little dove. Maybe it's an old nickname or something?"
I notice that he doesn't look like he's happy with me for some reason. Did I say something wrong?'
"It was nice speaking with you, Lady Star" he smiles politely and leaves.
"You too, Thor".
That was really weird.
