Chapter 48

Newt's POV:

We are driving back to Redwoods in utter failure and kayla was silent all the way through our drive and I couldn't bring myself to talk to her cause I, myself was in unbearable rage and pain because now I don't know how I could help Susie. 

It was midnight when we finally reached my house, Kayla fell asleep in the middle of the drive so I woke her up and she opened her eyes slowly and looked out the window.

"We are home?" she said rubbing her eyes, I nodded and said 

"Yeah, you should go inside and sleep" 

"You too boy, you didn't sleep a wink since 2 days, you should get some rest" she said

"I will Mrs. Rupert" 

She got out of the car and went inside. I parked the car in the garage and went inside. I was going to susie to see her. When I was inside the room Jenna and Kayla were tensed and Kayla was about to cry and I looked at the bed and it was empty, Susie is not in here.

"Where is she?" I asked. For a second I thought she woke up but when I looked at jenna, she is crying but they aren't the tears of joy.

"Jenna, Where is she?" I raised my voice which made her get startled. 

"I am sorry Newt" she said, her words coming out with fear. My parents and Mr. Rupert came running to us in fear after hearing me yell.

"What happened?" Mr. Rupert asked.

Kayla collapsed on the bed and she didn't say anything but fell silent. 

"Jenna tell me, what exactly happened?" I asked controlling my anger

She wiped her tears and said 

"I fell asleep on her side, she was here and I woke hearing the car sound, when I looked at the bed, it was empty, I searched the house thinking she might have gone somewhere but she's no where " 

"She couldn't have woken up" Kayla said "a Spell must be done for her to wake up and we know no one knew the spell for that"

"Did anyone come inside our house?" I asked thinking of the worst that someone might have kidnapped her.

"No" my mom said "The doors were locked Newt, no one could have come inside" 

"Then How did she disappear?" I asked but no one seemed to have the answer. My heart started pounding and became heavy. 

I have to think, I couldn't stop functioning in these times. Who would want to take her? Just him But he can't be here. He can't.

"Are you sure you caged Marcus for good?" I asked Kayla, she was wiping her tears before answering me.

"Yes, there's no way for him to come out unless he..." she paused with an expression of fear on her face.

"What is it?" my mom asked.

"Susie's blood" she said "He took her blood when he impersonated to be a witch and he went down into the cage taking it with him" she stood up and she was scared and frustrated.

"How could I have missed that?" she said "He could come out using that blood" she looked at me with tears in her eyes.

"He took her" words came out of my mouth without me knowing. Susie is the one he wanted most in his life, he would do anything to have her.

"How can we save her now?" Kayla fell to the ground crying and my mom hold her from falling apart. 

"Kayla.." I heard susie's dad voice from behind "What happened?" he came rushing into the room and looked at the empty bed.
