chapter 19

SUSIE'S POV

when we reached my home, it was actually late, now I gotta think about what excuse I should give to my father. I just wish he won't get mad. I was thinking about it when Newt started talking.

"Thank you for the treat, I really had a good time" he said with a really calm and refreshing smile. wow...I took a breath.

"It was more like you treated me, not that I treated you" I laughed looking down at my hands " I had a good time thanks to you and I wish I could meet your dad and thank him in person" I said

His one arm on the sterling wheel and one on his forehead trying to adjust his messy hair, it looked like he didn't want me to meet his dad.

"what..?! so can I meet him?" I asked again, now he faced me and said

"Yeah of course" he said with a slight 'no you should not' expression. 

"okay then ah...i'll see you at school tomorrow" I said and he just nodded. 

He waited until I go inside my house. After I closed the door I heard him driving away. Today was indeed a memorable day. I mean I have never been to anywhere before. I know I just went to san Carlos but at least I got out of red woods for the first time in my life and that too, it was with Newt. My first time seeing the outer world was with him. It felt good, being with him and I wasn't scared like I used to be when I looked into his eyes. I used to get lost in his dark eyes like it was possessing me but these days, I find myself smiling looking into his eyes. so much has changed. 

I hung my sweater and took off my shoes, I saw dad sitting on the couch watching football. he's still awake.

"Hey dad" I said while I laid my bag down and sat next to him.

"Seems like you are finally going out and coming home late, good" he said with a smile.

"Not exactly I was just with a friend" i said.

"That friend might be who...hmm let me think, it was probably that new guy " he said with a teasing tone.

"Yeah but there's nothing going on between us like you think. he is just a friend" I said

"whatever you say..well did you eat ?" he asked.

"I'm not hungry, I had so much coffee" i said.

"Ok..watch the game with me then, would you?" he asked, I nodded and we watched the game.

Then I remembered that I forgot to tell him about mom's book. I should tell him. He would feel happy.

"Dad...there's something I wanted to show you " I said grabbing my bag and took out the book.

"Remember this, mom left it for me but I couldn't read it cause its in a different language. guess what...Newts father helped me with this, he translated this whole book, its amazing right"I said while opening the book and when I looked at him, he face was horrified

"Whats wrong dad..?! you don't seem happy" I asked.

"What did you do susie?! you made someone translate the book?! thats impossible" he said.

"Whats so impossible dad..?"

"Why are you carrying that book with you? did you forgot what I told you?! you shouldn't be carrying it and now you even showed it to someone else" he stood up and took the book from me. 

"You shouldn't read this, I wont let you" he said.

"What are you doing dad? I shouldn't read it...why?!" I stood up and asked, I dont understand why he is acting so scared.
