                “’Nak nandiyan na yung sundo mo sa labas.” Sabi ni Papa bago niya ilapag ang mug niya sa mesa. Itiniklop niya ang hawak niyang newspaper bago ako ngitian.

                “Po?” Wala akong maalala na nagpasundo ako kay Captain. Pagkatapos ng usapan naming kagabi, hindi ko na mapigilan ang kaba na nararamdaman ko. We’ll be telling Papa today. Right now, their opinion about Jeric as a future boyfriend for me is at the front of my mind.

                “Ingat ka ‘nak.” Si Papa.

                Tumayo na ako at inabot ang bag ko sa katabing upuan ko. Hinalikan ko sa pisngi si Mama at Papa bago lumabas ng bahay.

                Pagkalabas ko ng gate, agad akong napahinto sa paglalakad.

                “Hi,” Bati ni Juami. Inabot niya sa akin ang hawak niya. “Your Caramel Macchiato,” He kisses my cheek.

                “What are you doing here?” I seem to ask him this question a lot.

                “I’m taking you to school.” He says it like it’s the most normal thing to do in the morning.

                “Wala ka bang pasok?” I ask.

                He shakes his head. “I’m guessing you already ate breakfast so I didn’t bring you anything else. Let’s go.”

                I grab his hand and stop him from walking any further. “Juami,”

                He turns to look at me.

                “We’re friends, right?” Tanong ko. I hope he knows that’s all we’ll ever be. I will always care for him, we both know that. But he and I can’t be anything more right now.

                His brows meet in the middle as he stares at me. He sighs. “If that’s how you see us, then yes we’re friends.”

                I nod. “Okay.” I let go of his hand.

                Tinititigan pa rin niya ako. I want to look away. I really do. But something in his eyes have me frozen in place. Hinawi ni Juami ang buhok ko bago ngumiti. “I just hope you know I don’t want to be just your friend Cheska.”

                Napalunok ako bago tumango. “That’s not something I can easily ignore.”

                He smiles before reaching for my bag and placing it in the backseat of his car. He then proceeds to opening the door for me. I smile briefly before getting in.

                “I hope you don’t mind if I take the long route to your school.” He says before we drive off.

                Naiilang pa rin ako sa sitwasyon naming ngayon ni Juami pero hindi ko na lang masyadong pinapansin ang pakiramdam ko na iyon. I’m glad he and I are friends. Pero alam kong hindi lang friendship ang habol niya sa akin. Let’s not forget the fact that I’m also in love with someone else who’s also Juami’s friend. And to make matters worse, Juami knows I love Jeric but he doesn’t seem to care.

                Yun ang weird eh. Juami knows I already love someone else and he’s still doing this for me. He still wants me back.

                “Why do you want me back?” Bigla kong tanong nang makalampas kami ng Sto. Domingo Church. Traffic nanaman. Buti na lang maaga din kaming nakaalis ng bahay at wala ang professor naming ng first period. Two hours din ang vacant ko before my next class.
