Third Person's POV (Lake's Condo)
"Man, now I really know you're going mad. You've been here less than 24 hours and you already bought yourself a house." Lucas, Lake's bestfriend, said as he sat on the couch and propped his feet up on the coffee table.
Lake opened the refrigerator and took out two cans of beer. He threw one at Lucas. His friend caught it and opened it. The sweet sound of the metal cracking open echoed in the room. "It's not a house. It's a condo."
"Does your sister even know you're staying for good this time?" Lucas asks him.
He shrugged his shoulders and pressed a button on the remote to turn on the TV. "I'm old enough to buy my own place and make my own decisions, Lucas. I don't need her permission."
"Bloody hell you don't!" Lucas exclaimed. "She's gonna pop an artery when she finds out what you're up to."
Lake's eyebrow rose as he turned to his bestfriend. "And what exactly am I up to, mate?"
"Don't act all innocent. You're thinking about finishing your business with that Cheska chick." Lucas took a healthy sip of beer before burping and pointing a finger at his friend. "From what you're telling me, I don't even think she's worth it."
"Bullshit," Yes. Living a few years in the states has rubbed off on Lake's vocabulary. Sometimes his brittish accent isn't even identifiable. It only resurfaces when he's angry, or when he feels the need to impress the ladies. "You don't know anything about her."
"There you go again. I've been your friend since we were kids, Lake. I know you have a penchant for good girls, the Catholic school type. I mean, you're into girls who do charity, go to school, gets straight A's. It's like a sickness with you. You know they don't go for your type at all but you still go on chasing after them. At the end of the day, we both know you'll end up with three chicks in your bed while nursing a bloody hangover. That's just the kind of guy you are. And you love it, mate. You're like a rockstar." Lucas says, his envy towards Lake creeping into his voice.
"What's the point in telling me this?" Lake asks impatiently.
Lucas sighs. "My point is that you're not the type that good girls end up with. You're the person they date, have fun with and then leave at the end before they find the guy they're supposed to marry. You date girls who are fun. You have the face of a god. Girls fancy you. You could get laid every single night with 7 different girls in a week. And yet you waste your time on girls who won't even take a second look at you. It's the good girls you chase. But it's our kind of girls that you know we'll always end up with."
"See, that's what's wrong with you. You give up too easily." Lake answers as he takes another swig of his beer.
Lucas chuckles and throws his now empty can at Lake. How funny is it that they completely believe in different things and yet they're bestfriends? "That's just the problem with you, mate. You never give up even when you're supposed to."
