Juami’s POV

How long has it been since I closed my eyes? I can’t remember. All I know is that I barely got an hour of sleep and that Nico and Karla shouldn’t be here in my bed this early in the morning, bouncing up and down like two excited puppies while looking at me with huge smiles. It’s too early for this. I don’t have the energy to answer their questions about last night.

Last night. Shit. The memories hit me straight in the gut and I am forced to hide my face under the sheets.

“Soooooo?” Karla asks excitedly. “Tita said you got home late last night. I’m guessing that’s because you two hit it off.”

                Wrong.

“You got laid didn’t you? That’s why you’re so tired.” Nico taunts.

I groan. Wrong again. Wouldn’t that be a better reason to be sleepless though? But I kick Nico’s side from under my blanket because Cheska is not that kind of girl. And yes, even after last night I still have this need to defend her.

I hear Karla slap Nico, “Ouch!”

“Come on Juami, tell us what happened already.” She insists as Nico pulls the blanket off me. I squint my eyes at them in the dark. What time is it anyway?

Karla stands up and pulls the curtains to the side and we are all greeted by blinding sunlight. I actually shout like a vampire burning in the morning light. Nico laughs.

“We got you coffee, bagels, and bacon.” Nico holds up a couple of paperbags in front of me as Karla clears the study table and places their other things there.

“Can we please not talk about this now?” I tell them.

“No.” Karla answers and hands me coffee. “Now sit down, be a good boy and eat your bagels.”

I groan but take the cup of coffee in her hands and drink the whole cup, not minding the scalding temperature.

“Wow, you must be really tired.” Nico says.

I narrow my eyes at him. “I wonder what makes you say that Nico.” Sarcasm drips heavily in my voice.

Karla unpacks the paper bag she’s holding and opens the first of the few containers she has with her. The smell of longganisa, garlic rice, and bacon waft through the airconditioned room. My mouth waters.

Nico stands up and walks towards the study table and grabs a piece of bacon and pops it into his mouth. “Remind me again why I haven’t married you yet?” He asks.

Karla laughs but her cheeks flush at his words. “Chew and swallow before you talk,”

Nico smiles and kisses her cheek.

God. Why? Of all the mornings I have to be confronted by a couple’s sweetness, why does it have to be today?

“I need to wash my face and brush my teeth,” I mutter as I quickly make my way into the bathroom.

“Okay but hurry up. The tapa’s going to get cold.” Karla says as I close the door behind me.

I inhale deeply before sighing in defeat. I don’t even want to remember last night and yet my friends are here, demanding a play-by-play. This is not going to end well. I wonder who will cry first about the turn of events, me or Karla?
