“Cheska may mga naghahanap sa’yo sa baba.” Kumatok si Manang sa pinto ng kwarto ko.

                Sino naman kaya yun?

                Saturday na. This is the day I’m goingt to spend with Juami. Hindi ko alam kung anong pinaplano niya. He hasn’t talked to me since the game between La Salle and Ateneo. Lalo lang akong kinabahan.

                Bumaba ako ng hagdan at pumasok sa sala.

                “Ate Cheska!” Kara says as she stands up and hugs me. Kara is two years younger than me. Pero hindi halatang seventeen years old pa lang siya. She’s mature for her age. Pinsan siya ni Juami. She’s Tita Irene’s only daughter.

                Tumayo din ang kasama niya at lumapit sa akin.

                “Ready for your date?” Karla asks.

                “Bakit nandito kayo?” Tanong ko sa kanilang dalawa.

                “We have orders from Kuya Juami. Tara na. We don’t want to be late.” Kara takes my hand ang pulls me with her.

                “Teka lang.” Hindi ako pwedeng pumunta sa date ng ganito ang suot ko. I’m wearing maong shorts for crying out loud.

                “You look pretty, don’t worry. We brought a change of clothes for you in the car.” Karla assures me.

                What? Naguguluhan na talaga ako. They succeeded in getting me out of the house.

                Kara pushes me into the backseat of the car and slams the door behind me. Karla starts the engine and we’re off.

                “Oh Ate Cheska,” Kara says as she looks at me from the passenger’s seat. “Kuya Juami said you have to hand in your phone. You’ll get it back daw later tonight.”

                I roll my eyes and hand it over anyway. “May I know why you guys are kidnapping me?”

                Karla laughs. “Silly we’re not kidnapping you. We’re taking you to Juami.”

                Kara nods. “I think he forgot to mention that it’s Anton’s competition today and that he said he would watch him play. He can’t back out of that commitment so he’s going to bring you along.”

                Anton? Kara’s brother?

                Wait. If Anton’s competing then it will be a family event. Juami’s relatives will be there.

                Crap.

                We entered the Ateneo campus an hour later. Karla and Kara left me inside the car so I can change. Nakatayo sila sa labas ng sasakyan. Their arms were crossed over their chests and they gave the passing boys mean stares.

                Natawa ako.

                I climbed out of the car a moment later wearing a light blue summer dress and a white bolero.

                “You’re right Kara. She looks good in blue. No wonder Juami specifically asked us to choose this color for her to wear.” Karla says.
