Jan 20th - Prompt: Sunset

-----------------------------

"I have until sunset to find him!" Peter cried. "Or they will kill him!"

Susan swallowed hard. "I don't know where they could of taken him." She whispered.

Peter shook his head. "I have no idea either." He choked. "But the sun's already setting Susan, and the second it disappears they will kill him."

Susan took a deep breath. "Lets think about this." She said, taking a deep breath.

"We've searched everywhere Susan." Peter whispered, shaking his head. "I can't think of anywhere else."

"What about somewhere closer to home?" Susan said after a long while of silence.

Peter blinked. "What?" He murmured.

"What about the caves under Cair?" Susan suggested. "The ones you can enter on the beach."

Peter frowned. "That's way too close." He breathed. "Isn't it?"

Susan thought for a second. "That's what they'd want us to think." She said quickly. "They've had us on a wild goose chase all day, what better way to trick us?"

Peter swallowed hard, before climbing onto his horse. "Let's go." He muttered, kicking the horse into a gallop.

They arrived at Cair's beach around half an hour later, Peter very aware of the steadily setting sun, so he wasted no time in heading for the first cave, Susan following behind.

They lit a torch and hurried down the cave, Peter's heart pounding in his chest before he stopped dead. "Oh thank Aslan." He choked.

Edmund blinked up at him, looking shocked, and it was clear he wanted to say something, but the gag prevented him.

Peter handed the torch to Susan and walked over, kneeling down to untie the gag and pull his brother into a hug.

"How an earth did you find me?" Edmund all but whispered.

"Susan had the idea of looking closer to home." Peter breathed, pulling away slowly but still gripping Edmund's shoulders.

Edmund glanced up at Susan, smiling. "There's a reason you're the smart one out of the four of us." He breathed.

Susan chuckled. "I reckon you could give me a run for my money." She replied softly, a teasing glint in her blue eyes.

Edmund smiled again, before turning back to Peter, who was glancing around. "If you're looking for the people that kidnapped me, they did a runner the second they heard you coming." He told him. "They realised their plan hadn't worked and wanted to get away as quickly as possible."

"Oh they aren't getting away." Peter almost laughed. "I'll find them, don't worry."

"Alright, but can you untie me first?" Edmund grumbled. "These ropes are awfully tight."

Peter turned back to him, noticing his arms tied behind him, instantly cutting through the ropes with his dagger. "Better?"

"Much." Edmund said, breathing a sigh of relief. "You have no idea what the last few hours have been like, I had no idea if it was sunset or not, or if it was close or not."

Peter sighed sadly. "You're okay now though?" He asked, Susan kneeling beside Edmund and inspecting a small cut on his right eyebrow.

Edmund smiled, nodding his head. "Yeah." He breathed. "I'm okay now."

Not sure if I really like this one, it would probably be better if it was a long one, maybe even a two shot but oh well 😂
