March 25th - Prompt: Innocent

Okay, I've used a translator app (not google) for some of this and I apologise if anything is wrong, because I don't know if this app is trustworthy and I don't speak German so...😂😂
(And translations will be at the end)

"It's weird being back isn't it?"

Edmund glanced up at his brother as the two walked through the park one evening. "It is." He murmured. "And I am not ready to go back to school."

Peter chuckled. "Neither am I." He agreed. "But we've still got a week."

Edmund nodded. "I'll have to make the most of it then." He said, kicking a stone into a bush.

Both boys froze though when a rustle of leaves reached their ears, and they both turned towards the bush Edmund had just kicked the stone at.

Edmund frowned, taking a few more steps forward to take a closer look.

After a moment or two, he frowned and turned to face Peter. "There's someone in the bush." He mouthed at him, confused.

Peter frowned too, looking just as confused as Edmund. "What?" He whispered.

Edmund shrugged, turning back around. "Hello?" He asked. "I didn't hurt you with that stone did I? If I did I'm sorry."

As weird as someone hiding in a bush was, Edmund still felt like he needed to apologise if he'd hurt whoever it was.

When there was no answer though, Edmunds frown got deeper. "Hello?" He asked again.

Peter sighed from where he was stood on the path. "Just leave it Ed." He said quietly.

Edmund nodded a little, shrugging as he went to turn away, but just as he turned, he was suddenly grabbed from behind and forced to the ground.

Everything happened too quickly for Peter to comprehend.

A soldier jumped from the bush, grabbed Edmund, forced him to his knees, and to his horror placed a gun to his head.

Edmund froze, his breath catching as he felt the gun.

Peter froze too, holding his hands out. "Let him go." He snapped.

The soldier barked something in a different language, and Peter took a deep breath when he recognised it as German... it was a German soldier.

Trying to stay calm, Peter swallowed hard. "You - You speak English?" He asked.

The soldier stared at him. "English?" He murmured, shaking his head.

Peter silently cursed, before pointing at the gun held in the soldiers hand. "No." He said. "No gun."

The soldier frowned for a moment, before tightening his grip on the gun, and his grip on Edmunds shoulder.

"No!" Peter shouted, stopping the soldier. "No gun, no hurt."

Edmund stared up at Peter, hoping and praying that he knew any words in German that would stop him from being shot.
