May 30th - Prompt: I'll always love you.

------------

The man walked slowly down the corridor of his castle, keeping quiet and making sure not to make a single noise. He snuck around corners, and eventually arrived at a door, which he lightly knocked on. "Caspian?" He whispered. "Are you awake?"

"Why are you whispering?"

The man smiled a little. "It's pretty late, that's why." He said, opening the door and walking into the room, finding his teenage son sat by the window, in his nightshirt and trousers, staring up at the stars. "Why aren't you asleep?"

Caspian shrugged a little. "I'm not tired." He replied.

His Dad smiled gently. "That's surprising." He said slowly. "You've had rather a long day."

Caspian once again shrugged. "Maybe I'll be tired later." He said.

"Maybe you will." His Dad chuckled.

There was silence for a while, before Caspian glanced up at his Dad. "Did you and uncle Miraz resolve your fight?" He asked quietly.

His Dad stared at him, before he took a deep breath. "Perhaps this isn't the best time to talk about this Cas, come on, you need to sleep." He said quietly.

Caspian stared at him. "I'll take that as a no." He sighed. "Why do you hate each other so much?"

His Dad frowned. "I could never hate your uncle, he's my brother Caspian." He told him. "I love him with my whole heart, it's just sometimes I might not like him, he can be a tricky man."

"He's jealous..." Caspian murmured. "That you get to rule."

His Dad bit his lip, swallowing hard. "I'm sure that's not true." He said, but he didn't sound too sure.

Caspian shrugged. "Seems pretty true to me." He said, turning back to stare out the window.

His Dad was silent for a moment, before he placed a hand on his son's shoulder. "Hey, listen to me." He said slowly. "I want you to know that no matter what, I'll always love you okay?" He paused for a moment, before quickly adding, "No matter what my relationship with Uncle Miraz becomes, I'll always be right here... yeah?"

Caspian stared at him with wide eye for a couple of seconds, before slowly nodding. "I love you too." He said.

His Dad smiled at him, before patting him on the back. "Good lad." He muttered. "Now come on, get into bed, you need to sleep."

Caspian didn't argue and walked slowly over to his bed, but he was secretly scared. He knew the argument his Dad and Uncle had had was serious, and he was worried they would never come back from it.

"Me and your uncle are gonna be just fine." His Dad suddenly said, clearly sensing his distress.

Caspian looked up at him, and after a moment he smiled slightly, nodding his head before climbing into bed and under the covers.

-----------

Caspian was woken late that night to a scream.

He sat bolt upright, his eyes going wide, before he heard a loud shout of. "The King's dead!"

He sat there, his breathing picking up speed, before he flung back the covers and all but ran from the room, down the corridor to his parents room, where the door was wide open.

He spotted a few guards stood surrounding the bed, before hearing the unmistakable sound of his mother crying, and turned around when someone walked up beside him.

His Uncle Miraz stood there, panting a little and staring wide eyed into the room.

Caspian stared him for a moment, before turning back to the room, and between the guards, he spotted his Father, laying in the bed, blood covering his white nightshirt and pain etched into his face.

It was clear he was Dead.

And from that moment, Caspian's life was never the same.

His mother died not long after from a broken heart.

His Uncle took him under his wing.

His Aunt fell pregnant, had a Son.

He had to escape.

Teamed up with the Kings and Queens of old he'd only ever heard about in the stories.

And then, he found his Uncle had been the one that had killed his father that night.

And when he found himself looking back, years after his Uncle was dead, he could remember the look on his face, and now he could see, there had been no sadness there, no terror, no shock, there had been nothing but a tiny glint of triumph in his eyes, and Caspian would forever hate himself for not seeing it...
