April 6th - Prompt: All too well
---------
"Alright, what's wrong?"
Edmund glanced up, frowning. "What?" He asked.
Peter raised an eyebrow. "You're thinking about something." He said. "And thinking hard."
Edmund shrugged. "It's nothing really." He murmured.
"It clearly is." Peter argued. "Because you've been thinking about it for ages."
"How do you know?"
"You've been staring at the wall for at least five minutes." Peter said with a shrug.
Edmund sighed, but nodded anyway.
"I know you all too well Ed." Peter told him gently, walking over to join him on his bed. "Come on, talk to me."
Edmund was silent for a while, before he sighed. "I was just thinking about when I tried to enlist is all." He mumbled.
Peter took a sharp intake of breath, before swallowing hard. "Oh." He mumbled. "That."
Edmund glanced up at him. "I can't tell whether it was a good idea, or a stupid idea." He breathed.
"Didn't I tell you about fifty times that it was indeed a stupid idea." Peter said somewhat firmly. "You're underage, you have a family, and you could been killed."
"It was the same in Narnia." Edmund said with a shrug.
"Swords and arrows are a bit different than guns and bombs." Peter snapped. "As I also said before."
Edmund nodded a little. "I know." He breathed. "I just felt like I needed to do something you know."
Peter nodded. "I do know." He said. "But enlisting for war wasn't the right thing to do, and deep down I think you knew that."
Edmund swallowed hard, Peter was right, he knew him way too well. "Sometimes I think you can read my mind." He said with a small smirk.
Peter smirked back. "Maybe I can." He teased gently, before growing serious again. "But try not to think about it anymore yeah? It's in the past, and you've promised you won't do it again whilst underage right?"
Edmund took a deep breath and nodded. "Right." He said, his voice sincere enough to convince Peter.
"Anyway, you might not of ended up in Narnia if you'd been on the - the battlefield." Peter said with a small shrug.
Edmund thought about this for a moment. "I guess that's true." He said, before groaning. "Now you've got me thinking about Narnia."
Peter shook his head. "That's not all bad." He breathed. "But I can tell you're thinking of the fact you can never go back, so come on, let's go for a walk in the park, and perhaps a kick about."
Edmund smiled gently, silently thanking his brother. "Sounds like fun." He said.
"Course it does." Peter teased gently, standing from the bed. "Race you downstairs."
Edmund chuckled as Peter dashed to the door. "How old are you?" He muttered playfully.
Peter stopped in the doorway and raised an eyebrow. "You're never too old to have fun." He said firmly, before laughing and dashing down the stairs.
"Peter would you not run down the stairs like that?!"
Edmund chuckled at his Mums voice coming from the kitchen, and shook his head, laughing as he headed after Peter, deciding to walk. "I guess you're never too old to have fun no." He murmured to himself, before walking down the stairs one step at a time.
