July 14th - Prompt: You think I don't notice
-----------
"I can't find him anywhere."
Susan sighed a little after Peter had come running up to her. "You sure?" She asked.
Peter stared at her. "I've checked everywhere." He said.
"Perhaps he's just hidden himself away somewhere." Susan suggested. "He's good at not being found."
Peter swallowed hard. "I need to talk to him." He breathed. "He's struggling at the moment, I can tell."
"I know." Susan murmured. "But it's understandable, it has been two years today..."
Peter nodded slowly. "I'll try find him again." He sighed. "I won't stop until I find him."
He didn't wait for Susan to answer before he ran off again, heading down the corridor in search of his little brother.
He was searching for around ten minutes before he spotted Edmund walking towards him from the other end of the corridor. "Ed." He breathed.
Edmund was walking with his head down and his shoulders hunched, a book clutched in his hand and one of his fingers marking the page he was on.
"Ed!" Peter called.
Edmunds head snapped up, and he immediately wiped the look off his face, instead forcing a small smile. "Hey." He breathed when he reached his older brother.
Peter stopped in front of him. "Where have you been?" He asked.
Edmund faked a confused look. "What?" He asked.
"I've been looking for you for ages." Peter said. "You didn't show up for lunch and we got worried."
Edmund chuckled. "Sorry, I got carried away." He said, holding up his book. "I needed to know what happened next."
Peter stared at him for a while, "Sit down." He muttered, nodding at the window seat closest to them.
Edmund took a deep breath, but did as he was told, almost holding his breath in anticipation of what Peter was gonna say.
Peter sat beside him, took a deep breath, and then sighed. "Do you think I don't notice?" He asked quietly.
Edmund frowned. "Notice what?" He murmured.
"Notice when you're not feeling great." Peter replied. "Because I do notice, every single time, which is why I know you're struggling now."
Edmund swallowed hard. "Peter..."
Peter shook his head. "I'm not stupid Edmund." He cut in. "It's alright to not be alright you know, I just wish you'd tell me."
Edmund sighed and shrugged. "You have enough to-"
"You say that every time." Peter interrupted, before smiling a little. "How about we go out for the rest of the day? It could take your mind off the things you've been thinking about."
Edmund seemed to think for a while, before nodding slowly. "That sounds good." He breathed.
Peter nodded back, before frowning, a sudden thought crossing his mind. "You haven't had any nightmares have you?" He asked, unsure seeming as they didn't share a room anymore. They had for around a year or so, but after that Edmund had decided he wanted his own space, and Peter couldn't just say no.
Edmund shook his head. "Not yet." He breathed.
"Then why do you look so tired?"
Edmund shrugged. "I just don't want to go to sleep," He admitted. "In case I do dream."
Peter nodded slowly, understanding. "Come on," He breathed. "You need a day to forget all this, and then tomorrow we're gonna sit down and have a proper talk yeah?"
Edmund sighed but agreed. "Okay." He murmured.
Peter placed a hand on his shoulder. "The anniversary will get easier each year." He reassured him. "Trust me."
Edmund smiled weakly at him and slowly nodding his head. "Of course I trust you." He breathed.
And he did, he really, honestly did.
