(Possible trigger warning)
"Sometimes I feel like giving up but I just can't."
"I can't just give up." Peter muttered. "Not on Edmund, no way."
Susan sighed. "I know." She breathed. "And I'm not asking you to, I'm just asking you to take it easy on yourself. You're tireing yourself out, I can tell, there are three of us here to help Edmund, so let me and Lucy help too."
Peter sat down on the sofa, sighing. "Sometimes it is hard." He whispered, nodding slowly. "But then I remember everything he's been through, and I don't care about me anymore, I made a promise to him when he returned from the witch that I would never give up on him, and I won't break that promise. I also promised Mum that I'd look after him, look after all of you, and I'll keep that promise too, no matter what happens to me."
Susan smiled sadly and sat beside him, placing her left hand on his shoulder. "You're a good brother Peter." She told him, her voice quiet. "Don't ever change."
Peter smiled just a tiny bit, nodding slowly. "I wasn't planning to." He breathed.
They looked up when Edmund slowly walked into the room, in his pyjamas and quite clearly just woken up.
"Hey." Peter murmured, tears pricking his eyes at how tired his brother looked, no doubt because of the nightmares he'd been having since Aslans camp.
Edmund didn't say anything, but hesitantly and slowly walked over and sat beside Peter, curling against his side and burying his face agaisnt his chest.
Peter's heart broke at the fact he'd hesitated, but wrapped his arms around him and pulled him close, placing a kiss to the top of his head. "What's up?" He murmured.
"Tired." Edmund whispered after a while, his voice muffled against Peter's tunic as he spoke.
Peter sighed. "You don't wanna go back to sleep?" He asked.
Edmund shook his head. "I tried falling back to sleep." He muttered. "Didn't work."
Peter sighed. "Alright." He sighed. "Why don't you just have a relaxing day today yeah?"
Edmund hesitated. "I promised Lucy I'd go down the beach with her." He said. "I don't wanna break that promise."
Peter couldn't help but smile. "You sure?" He asked.
Edmund took a deep breath. "Yeah I'm sure." He replied.
Peter gave Susan a glance, she was smiling at Edmund, before turning back to his brother. "You're gonna have an early night tonight though." He told him. "I'll stay with you too."
Edmund sighed, guilt filling him. "You don't have to." He said quietly.
"Ed, remember when I promised I wouldn't give up on you?" Peter said.
Edmund nodded a little.
"Well in my eyes not being there when you're suffering through nightmares is giving up on you." Peter told him, voice quiet. "I'll be there, no matter what you say."
