May 27th - Prompt: Falling apart
----------
Peter was woken late one night by a horrific, heartbreaking scream.
He sat bolt upright, extremely disorientated as his eyes snapped open.
He heard gasping, and after a moment of waking himself up he turned to his left, to see Edmund, wide awake, sat up and panting.
"Ed..." He breathed, pulling back the covers.
He'd been expecting this, after all it was their first night at Cair, and had only been a few days since the worst day of both his and Edmunds lives.
Before Peter could reach out for Edmund, as the two were sharing a bed until another could be moved in by request of Peter, his little brother scrambled to his feet and dashed for the bathroom, pushing the door open with such force Peter wouldn't be surprised if it had made a whole in the wall.
When Edmund disappeared from view and Peter heard the unmistakable sound of someone throwing up, he launched himself from the bed and into the bathroom, finding Edmund collapsed against the toilet, gasping and choking.
Hurrying over Peter knelt beside him, brushing back the hair from his forehead and whispering reassuringly under his breath.
He couldn't help but notice that Edmund was gripping his side so tight his knuckles had gone white, and Peter instantly knew what he'd dreamt about.
"Shhh, its okay." He murmured, voice shaking a little as he placed his own hand over the hand that Edmund had glued to his side. "Breathe, in and out, deep breaths, its okay."
Once Edmund knew he wouldn't throw up anymore, he managed to listen to Peter, and eventually get his breathing back to normal, but he collapsed against his brother, his whole body limp and weak, except where he still had an iron grip on his nightshirt.
"Oh Eddy." Peter whispered, unsure what to say.
There was silence for a while before Edmund began to silently sob, and Peter couldn't really do much but watch his brother slowly falling apart.
He pulled him close, careful not to even touch his hand or side though, placed comforting kisses on the top of his head and whispered reassuringly in his ear, but other than that there was nothing he could do.
"It - It hurts." Edmund sobbed out eventually, his voice cracking.
Peter swallowed hard. Ever since Beruna the scar had been causing him pain. It actually hadn't fully healed, and they put that down to the wound having been a magical one, as it was caused by Jadis' wand, but had said it should heal in a week or two, but that was proving to be torturous for Edmund sometimes.
"I - I know, but you need to calm down so it'll hurt less." Peter told him softly. "Just take deep breaths. Focus on me and not the pain okay?"
Edmund nodded a little, and it took him at least 10 minutes to get his crying to stop, but at least he did.
"There you go." Peter murmured, running his hand through Edmunds slightly sweaty hair. "You're okay."
Edmund buried his face against Peter's neck, trembling. "That - That was awful." He choked.
"It's over." Peter reassured him. "It was a dream."
Edmund took a deep, shaky breath. "Thank you." He whispered.
Peter smiled, placing another kiss to the top of his head before sighing warmly. "Don't mention it."
