"Gally, if you keep staring at the doors, you're never going to get this fence done." Newt gently reminded. Newt was about the only Glader Gally would listen to ever since y/n had started to run the maze.

"Shuck it, Newt, I am getting it done." Gally huffed, his eyes never leaving the doors. "...But do you think y/n's ok? What if something would have happened? What if a Griever, or the maze, or the doors... shuck it, Newt! Y/n should never have become a runner, I shouldn't have allowed it!"

"You did vote against the idea in the Keeper's meeting," Newt reminded softly.

"I should have done more, stopped the others from voting in favor... something..."

Newt put an arm cautiously on Gally's, leading him back to the fence he was supposed to be mending.

"I'm sure y/n's fine, why don't you-"

"MEDJACKS!"

Both boys looked up sharply as Minho came stumbling through the doors, the shaking form of y/n clinging to him.

"Oh shuck."

Newt winced at the tone in Gally's voice and turned to look at him, but Gally was already sprinting across the Glade toward the doors. With a slow breath, Newt followed him.

"Gally, I'm sorry, I don't know what happened-" Minho started, but Gally was already mid-explosion.

"WHAT THE SHUCK MINHO, ITS Y/N'S SECOND WEEK IN THE MAZE, AND YOU ALREADY GOT Y/N KILLED?!" His voice broke completely on the last word and he lunged at Minho.

"Woah, calm down!" All the guys chorused, Alby and a few of the builders putting themselves between Gally and Minho.

"It wasn't his fault, Gally, calm down or we'll throw you in the slammer and you'll be no help to y/n," Alby yelled at his furious friend.

"She's not even dead, Gally," Clint remarked, helping y/n stand.

"I'm alright boys, really, no need to make such a fuss..." Y/n broke down again reaching out her arms for support. Gally was holding y/n in a moment, glaring at the closest Gladers.

"She just needs rest, Gally," Jeff instructed, pointing toward the Medjack hut. Gally stormed off with y/n in his arms and the other Glader's didn't even try to go after him.

"Y/n, I'm sorry, I never should have let you in that maze, do you need water or food or-" Gally rambled, gently putting you down on one of the bed in the Medjack hut.

"Gally, listen to me."

Gally met your eyes.

"I'm fine. I just... I had a flashback again."

Gally's eyebrows raised.

"From your life outside the maze? Was it something new?"

You shook your head.

"No, the same... but more vivid this time. It gets worse in the maze... I'm... I'm this vat of liquid and I can't breathe... I can't breathe... I can't get out... I can't..."

Your breathing grew rapid and panic-stricken again and your eyes glazed over.

"No, no, no, y/n, listen to me! Umm... uh... Minho uses goat slobber to get his hair to stay that way!"

"What?" You laughed a little and it distracted you from your memories for a minute.

"Ah shuck, he swore me to secrecy. You won't say anything, will you?" Gally pleaded.

You laughed again, wiping sweat from your forehead.

"I won't I promise."

Gally's face softened as he whispered, "There's that smile I love so much."

You blushed a deep red and took a deep, long breath, the first in a while.

"Thank you, Gally."

"Anything for you. Now, you're going to eat something and drink something and never go into that maze ever again."

He crossed his hands over his chest as if the matter was decided, and you giggled.

"We'll see, Captain, we'll see."

Gally wrapped his big arms around you in a bear hug and, while it didn't make everything immediately alright, you felt safe with him. And that was a nice feeling.
