Thomas was used to the daily grind of the Glade, but nothing could prepare him for what he saw when he came across you that day. You were sitting alone behind the Homestead, your back against the rough wooden wall, your head bowed. He noticed the way your shoulders were hunched, and something about your posture set off alarm bells in his head.
"Hey, y/n, you okay?" Thomas asked, trying to keep his tone light as he approached.
You didn't answer, your silence only amplifying his worry. As he got closer, he noticed the way you were cradling your arm, and his heart sank.
"Y/N," Thomas said again, softer this time, as he crouched down beside you. "What's going on?"
When you still didn't respond, he reached out, gently lifting your chin so you had to look at him. That's when he saw the tears glistening in your eyes, and the faint, angry red marks on your arm.
"Shuck," he muttered under his breath, his mind racing. "What did you do?"
You pulled away from his touch, but he didn't let you go far. His hand moved to your arm, carefully brushing over the marks. The touch was so gentle, so unlike anything else in the Glade, that it made you flinch.
"Why would you do this?" Thomas asked, his voice a mix of confusion and pain. "Why didn't you tell me you were feeling this way?"
You shook your head, the words caught in your throat. It wasn't something you could easily explain, and you felt ashamed for even thinking you could hide it from him.
"I'm sorry," you finally whispered, the apology hanging heavy in the air.
Thomas's expression softened, and he pulled you into a hug, holding you tight against him.
"Don't apologize. Just... don't do this to yourself, okay? You don't deserve this."
He felt you tremble in his arms, and it broke his heart. The Glade was harsh enough without adding this kind of pain to the mix. He knew everyone here had their own demons, but he never imagined you'd be facing something like this.
"You're not alone," he murmured, his voice steady despite the emotions coursing through him. "Whatever's going on, whatever you're feeling, you don't have to face it by yourself. I'm here. Always."
You let out a shaky breath, the tears spilling over now. Thomas didn't let go, didn't pull away. He just held you, letting you cry into his shoulder, not caring about anything else in that moment but you.
After what felt like hours, your sobs started to quiet, and Thomas slowly loosened his grip, though he kept one arm wrapped around you. He pulled back just enough to look at you, his eyes searching yours.
"We're gonna get through this," he said, his voice firm with determination. "I'm not letting you go through this alone. I'll be here, no matter what."
You nodded, the weight of his words sinking in. For the first time in what felt like forever, you didn't feel completely alone. Thomas's presence was like a lifeline, pulling you back from the edge.
He helped you to your feet, his arm still around your shoulders, guiding you back toward the center of the Glade. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up, okay? And then we'll figure this out. Together."
The two of you walked in silence, but it wasn't the uncomfortable silence that had filled the space before. This was different, filled with unspoken understanding and a promise of support. Thomas didn't have all the answers, but he knew one thing for sure: he wasn't going to let you face this darkness alone.
