The Glade was unusually quiet that evening, the usual buzz of activity winding down as the sun dipped below the horizon. You found yourself alone near the Deadheads, the secluded grove offering a rare moment of peace. You often came here to clear your head, to find a moment of solitude amidst the chaos of the Maze. Tonight was no different, though your thoughts were more tangled than usual.

You weren't alone for long. You heard the familiar sound of footsteps approaching, and before you could even turn, you knew who it was.

"Mind if I join you?" Newt's voice was soft, almost hesitant, as he stepped into the clearing.

"Of course not," you replied, a small smile tugging at your lips. Newt always had a way of making you feel at ease, even in the most trying times.

He sat down beside you, close enough that your shoulders brushed. The two of you fell into a comfortable silence, the kind that only came with deep trust and understanding. For a while, you just sat there, watching the sky change colors, the stars beginning to twinkle faintly above.

"You seemed a bit off today," Newt finally said, breaking the silence. His tone was gentle, concerned. "Everything alright?"

You sighed, trying to find the right words. "I don't know. It's just... a lot, you know? Everything here, the Maze, the constant pressure. Sometimes it feels like too much."Newt nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Yeah, I get that. We're all feeling it, in our own ways."

You glanced over at him, his profile outlined against the fading light. There was something about Newt that always drew you in, his calm strength, the way he seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders but never let it break him. He was always there for everyone, always the first to offer a hand or a kind word.

And lately, you'd found yourself thinking about him more than you should, in ways you hadn't expected. It wasn't just admiration or friendship anymore; it was something deeper, something you weren't sure how to deal with.

"I just... I don't know how to handle it all sometimes," you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper.

Newt turned to face you, his eyes searching yours. "You don't have to handle it alone, you know. I'm here. We all are."

"I know," you said, your heart beating faster under his gaze. "It's just that... I've been feeling different lately. About a lot of things."

"Different how?" Newt asked, his brow furrowing slightly.

You hesitated, the words sticking in your throat. How could you explain this without ruining everything? But Newt was patient, waiting for you to find your voice, his expression open and understanding.

"I've been thinking about... us," you finally said, your cheeks heating up. "About how much you mean to me. More than just a friend."

Newt's eyes widened slightly, surprise flickering across his face, but he didn't pull away. "You mean... you've been feeling the same way I have?"

You blinked, caught off guard. "Wait, you've been feeling...?"

Newt nodded, a small, almost shy smile playing on his lips. "Yeah, I have. I just didn't know how to say it, didn't want to make things weird between us."

Relief flooded through you, quickly followed by a rush of emotion that made your head spin. All this time, you'd been worrying, overthinking, and Newt had felt the same way.

"I'm glad you said something," he continued, his voice soft. "Because I've been wanting to tell you for ages, but I didn't know if you felt the same."

Before you could second-guess yourself, you leaned in, closing the distance between you.

Newt's breath hitched as your lips met, soft and tentative at first, like neither of you quite believed this was happening. But then he responded, his hand gently cupping your cheek, the kiss deepening as all the unspoken feelings between you finally found an outlet.

The world seemed to fade away, the worries and fears melting into the background as you lost yourself in the moment. Newt's lips were warm and gentle, his touch reassuring, and you felt a warmth spread through you, a sense of rightness that you hadn't felt in a long time.

When you finally pulled back, both of you were breathless, your foreheads resting against each other's. Newt's eyes were still closed, a contented smile on his face, and you couldn't help but smile too, your heart swelling with happiness.

"I've been wanting to do that for a long time," Newt murmured, his voice full of emotion.

"Me too," you admitted, your hand still resting on his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart.

He opened his eyes then, looking at you with such tenderness that it made your breath catch. "We'll figure this out together, yeah? No matter what happens."

"Yeah," you whispered, your heart full as you gazed back at him. "Together."

And in that moment, sitting there under the stars with Newt, you knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, you could face them. Because you weren't alone anymore—you had each other.
