Working in the kitchens with Frypan on your day off always meant one of two things: extra food or a food fight. Sometimes both. Today was a 'both' day. You, Frypan, Chuck, and two of the other kitchen helpers had barricaded yourself in the kitchens. You and Frypan were camped out behind a large table turned over on its side, the others were across the kitchen hiding behind some crates. Remnants of supplies littered the room, but no one cared.

"Ready the ammunition, Sergeant Frypan."

"No, Commander Y/N! You can't go out there... it's suicide!"

"Someone has to, Private Chuck. Cover me!"

With an unearthly scream and two fistfuls of flour, you leapt over the table ninja-style and creamed the other two boys in the face. They gasped, breathed in large clouds of flour, and retreated, sputtering... right into the ambush Frypan had ready for them.

"Have some eggs with your flour!"

The boys collapsed, covered in food, and held their hands up in surrender.

"Nice work, team, we-" You started to say when Gally kicked the door in and Alby stormed into the room, followed by a large number of the boys.

"Would anyone like to explain this before I throw you all in the slammer?" Alby asked.

You exchanged glances with Frypan and nodded, stepping forward.

"It was my idea, Alby, I swear. We were just having a little fun... but if anyone should go to the slammer it should be me."

Alby sighed. "Y/N this is the third time we've caught you wasting supplies, and this is the third time you've tried to take the blame. I know it was Frypan's doing-"

"No, really, it wasn't!" You said, trying to keep your friend out of trouble with Alby. Frypan stood behind you, looking guilty.

"Why are you trying to protect him all of a sudden?" Gally interjected himself into the conversation, his face red.

"What do you mean him?" You asked, confused.

"You're always hanging with him on your days off. What do you like him or something?"

"Don't be childish, Gally, Frypan and I are friends-"

"Don't call me childish! You're childish! Taking the blame for something you didn't do is dumb!"

"Are you calling me dumb?"

Gally looked you right in the eyes. "Hanging out with this guy is dumb, and you're doing that, so yeah, you're dumb!"

"Hey!" Frypan spoke up.

"Slim it, Frypan," You and Gally said simultaneously before staring back at each other. You opened your mouth to reply but Alby beat you to it.

"You can all slim it! Y/n, you and Frypan will clean up this mess, then spend the next few nights in the slammer. Gally, you will take the others back to work. Understood?"

"Yes, Alby," came the chorused reply, and you and Frypan set to work, sending glares Gally's direction.

"What's with Gally? He's more aggressive than usual... and that's saying something." You whispered to Frypan as you stooped to clean up some spattered strawberry jelly.

"Dunno," Frypan shrugged. "You would know better than me, don't you always hang out with him and the builders on your days off?"

"I used to. Then I got to know you and the cooks and... oh, shuck, Frypan! Do you think that's it? I used to hang out with Gally, then I got to know you guys and now I hang out here! Do you think... nah, Gally's not... jealous, is he?"

Frypan shrugged. "I wouldn't know. Wouldn't be surprised, though. Hanging out with you is a blast."

"Thanks, Frypan." You smiled. "Now, let's finish this up."

~That Night~

You had planned to go over and apologize after dinner that night, but Gally beat you to it, approaching you first with a squished wildflower in one hand.

"I'm sorry," He mumbled, thrusting the flower into your hands and turning away to cross his arms over his chest. "You're not dumb. I was mad."

"Yeah, caught that." You muttered sarcastically, wanting something more. You had seen him talking to Newt earlier that day; he had obviously gotten Newt's apology tutorial. Gally would never think of apologizing first on his own, let alone with a flower.

Gally sighed as if speaking to you was the most inconvenient thing he had ever experienced.

"I was mad because... you used to hang out with me on your days off. I thought you liked watching us build things... now you just hang out with Frypan and get into trouble."

"Ooh, jealous much?" You taunted, causing Gally to flush crimson with embarrassment and anger.

"Shuck it, y/n, I said I was sorry! Ugh... never mind." Gally turned away again.

"I guess that's the best apology I'm getting from you, Captain." You sighed but smiled at the pathetic flower drooping in your hands. You knew Gally was doing his best.

"I guess I forgive you then."

"You'd better," Gally grunted, still refusing to look at you. You touched his arm gently, then unfolded his arms and hugged him.

He didn't hesitate to hold you tightly, and you couldn't wipe the smile off your face for the rest of the day.
