The smell of Frypan's cooking wafted through the Glade, a comforting aroma that usually drew everyone to the mess hall. Tonight, however, you found yourself sitting alone on a log near the kitchen, your plate of food untouched. The day had been exhausting, and though your stomach was empty, you felt too emotionally drained to eat.Frypan, ever the diligent cook, noticed you weren't at the table. He had seen you earlier, looking pale and distant, and it didn't sit right with him. When he finished up in the kitchen, he grabbed a plate of food and made his way over to where you sat.
"Hey, y/n," Frypan said as he approached, trying to sound casual but with a hint of concern in his voice. "I noticed you didn't come for dinner. Everything alright?"You looked up, feeling a pang of guilt as he handed you the plate. "I'm just not hungry, Frypan. Thanks, but I'm fine."
Frypan set the plate down beside you and took a seat on the log. He studied your face, noticing how tired and stressed you looked. "You sure? You've hardly touched your food all day. And it's really good tonight. I made your favorite."
You sighed, your shoulders slumping. "It's just... I've been feeling a bit off. I don't have much of an appetite."
Frypan's brow furrowed. "Look, y/n, I know things can get tough sometimes. But skipping meals isn't going to help. You need to eat to keep your strength up. You can't help anyone if you're running on empty."
You avoided his gaze, feeling a mix of frustration and sadness. "It's not just about food, Frypan. It's... everything."
Frypan placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. "I get that. I really do. But food can be a small comfort when everything else feels out of control. And sometimes, talking about it while eating helps more than you think."
He took a deep breath and gave you a reassuring smile. "How about this? We don't have to talk about it right now. Just take a few bites for me. If you still don't feel up to talking, that's okay. But at least let me know you've had something to eat."
You hesitated for a moment, but Frypan's genuine concern was hard to ignore. With a sigh, you picked up a fork and took a small bite of the food. Frypan watched you with a mixture of relief and encouragement.
"There you go," Frypan said with a warm smile. "It's okay to take it one step at a time. I'm here if you need to talk, or if you just need some company. You don't have to go through this alone."
You managed a small smile, feeling a bit of comfort from his words and actions. "Thanks, Frypan. It means a lot."
He nodded and stood up, giving you a reassuring pat on the back. "Anytime. And remember, if you need anything—food, a chat, or just a break from things—I'm here. Don't hesitate to come find me."
As Frypan walked back to the kitchen, you felt a bit of the weight lift off your shoulders. The small gesture of sharing a meal, even when you weren't up for it, made you feel a little less alone.
