The Box had just slid to a stop, and the familiar mechanical clank echoed through the Glade. As the heavy metal doors creaked open, Thomas, who had been busy with his tasks, turned his attention toward the commotion. He watched with wide eyes as you emerged from the darkness of the Box, a mixture of relief and concern etched across your face.
Thomas had been waiting for you with a mix of anticipation and anxiety, knowing that you were finally making your debut in the Glade. He took a few steps forward, his usual calm demeanor replaced by an evident rush of emotions.
"Hey!" he called out, his voice carrying a blend of excitement and worry.
You looked up at him, a nervous but hopeful smile on your face. The harsh, bright sunlight of the Glade was a stark contrast to the darkness of the Box, and you blinked a few times as your eyes adjusted. Thomas's welcoming expression seemed like a beacon of warmth amidst the overwhelming newness of your surroundings.
As you stumbled slightly, adjusting to the unfamiliar terrain, Thomas was quick to reach your side. He extended a supportive hand, his touch gentle yet firm. "Careful there. It's a bit of a shock coming up from the Box. Let me help you."
You gratefully accepted his help, feeling a rush of comfort from his presence. "Thanks, Thomas. It's a lot to take in."
He guided you toward the center of the Glade, where the other Gladers were gathering, their curiosity piqued by your arrival. Thomas kept close, ensuring you didn't feel overwhelmed by the sudden attention and the unfamiliar environment.
"I know it's a lot to process," Thomas said, his voice reassuring. "But you'll get used to it. It took me a while too, but we all help each other out here."
As you took in your surroundings, trying to make sense of the maze and the people around you, Thomas continued to offer words of encouragement. His genuine concern and friendly demeanor made the transition a bit easier.
"I'm really glad you're here," he added, his eyes meeting yours with sincerity. "If you need anything—anything at all—just let me know. I'll be around to help you settle in."
You nodded, feeling a mixture of gratitude and relief. "I appreciate that, Thomas. It's good to know I'm not alone in this."
Thomas smiled, a friendly and comforting smile that eased some of the anxiety you were feeling. "You're definitely not alone. Welcome to the Glade."
The other Gladers gradually began to approach, their curiosity mingling with friendly gestures as they introduced themselves. Throughout the interactions, Thomas remained by your side, offering support and guidance as you navigated the initial chaos of your arrival.
With Thomas's reassuring presence and the friendly faces of the other Gladers, the overwhelming newness of the Glade began to feel a bit more manageable. It was clear that, despite the challenges ahead, you had found a welcoming ally in Thomas. His kindness and support made the transition from the Box to the Glade a little less daunting, and you felt a spark of hope for the days to come.
