You were sitting on the grass just outside of the Homestead, your knees pulled up to your chest, lost in thought. The Glade was calm today, with most of the Gladers busy with their daily tasks. But your mind wasn't on the tasks or the maze. It was on something more personal, something you'd been keeping to yourself for a long time.

Newt noticed you from a distance and made his way over. His limp was barely noticeable, but you could always tell when he was walking up behind you. He had a way of moving that was both cautious and confident.

"Hey, love," Newt said as he sat down beside you, his accent soft and comforting. "What are you thinking about so hard over here?"

You hesitated, glancing at him before looking back down at the grass. Newt was your closest friend in the Glade, the one person you felt like you could be completely honest with. But this... this was different.

"I've been thinking about something," you started, picking at a blade of grass nervously. "Something about me that I haven't really told anyone."

Newt's expression shifted to one of concern, his eyebrows knitting together. "You can tell me anything, you know that."

Taking a deep breath, you decided to just come out with it. "I'm a therian, Newt."There was a brief moment of silence, where you could almost hear the gears turning in

Newt's head as he processed what you'd said. "A therian," he repeated slowly, his voice gentle and inquisitive. "That means... you identify with a certain animal, right? You feel connected to it on a deep level?"

You nodded, relief washing over you that he seemed to understand. "Yeah. For me, it's a horse. I feel like, deep down, that's a part of who I am. It's not just about liking horses, it's... it's like their spirit is inside me, if that makes sense."

Newt didn't laugh or make any of the jokes you'd been half-expecting. Instead, he looked at you with those warm, understanding eyes. "It makes perfect sense," he said softly. "I can see how that would be a big part of who you are. And I'm glad you told me."

You felt a weight lift off your shoulders, but there was still a lingering doubt. "I just... I don't know if anyone else would understand. It's not something people talk about much."

Newt reached out and placed a hand on your shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You don't have to explain yourself to anyone, love. This is your truth, and it's as valid as anyone else's. If anyone doesn't understand or doesn't accept it, that's on them, not you."

His words were like a balm to your worried mind. "I just didn't want you to think I'm... weird or something."

Newt chuckled softly, shaking his head. "We're all a bit weird, aren't we? But that's what makes us who we are. And you... you're amazing just the way you are, therian and all."

A small smile tugged at your lips. "Thanks, Newt. That really means a lot."

"Anytime," he replied, leaning back on his hands and looking up at the sky. "So, tell me more about it. What's it like for you?"

You felt your heart swell with gratitude and warmth. Newt was the kind of friend who not only accepted you but was genuinely interested in understanding you. "It's hard to explain, but... it's like I feel the instincts of a horse sometimes. The need to run, to be free, to just... be in nature. It's like I can almost feel what it's like to be one."

Newt nodded along, listening intently. "That sounds kind of incredible, actually. And it explains why you always seem so at peace when you're out in the woods or the fields."

"Yeah, it's like that's where I'm supposed to be," you agreed, feeling more comfortable talking about it now. "It's not something I can really turn off. It's just... part of me."

"Well," Newt said with a smile, "I think it's a pretty wonderful part of you. And if you ever feel like you need to talk about it more or just want to run around like a horse, I'll be right there with you."

You laughed, a genuine, light-hearted sound that you hadn't heard from yourself in a while.

"I might take you up on that."

"Good," he said, his smile widening. "Because I'm not going anywhere."And with that, you felt like a new chapter in your life had opened. One where you didn't have to hide who you were, where you had a friend who accepted every part of you, therian and all.
