The air in the Glade was thick with the usual sounds of work and chatter, but your mind was elsewhere. You stood near the base of the towering stone walls that surrounded the Glade, staring up at them with a mixture of determination and anxiety. The maze had always fascinated and terrified you in equal measure, but today, it was calling to you more than ever.
You took a deep breath, your fingers brushing the rough surface of the stone. The desire to climb had been gnawing at you for days, a restlessness you couldn't shake. You weren't sure if it was the need to prove something to yourself or simply the urge to do something different, but whatever it was, it pushed you to take the first step.
With a deep breath, you started to climb, your fingers and toes finding small holds in the cracks and crevices of the wall. The stone was cool under your touch, and the height quickly began to steal your breath away, but you pressed on, focused on nothing but the climb.
"Hey! What the shuck are you doing up there?" Minho's voice rang out below you, sharp with surprise and concern.
You froze, your heart pounding in your chest as you glanced down at him. Minho stood at the base of the wall, staring up at you with wide eyes, his usual confident demeanor replaced with one of shock.
"Come down from there!" he called up, his voice taking on a firmer tone. "That's not safe!"
You hesitated, your hands gripping the stone tightly. You knew he was right, but something in you didn't want to back down now. "I just wanted to see if I could do it," you called back, your voice shaky from the effort and the height.
Minho ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated and worried. "Well, congratulations, you're halfway up a shucking wall. Now, get down before you hurt yourself!"
You could hear the genuine concern in his voice, and it cut through the stubbornness that had driven you to climb in the first place. Slowly, carefully, you began to make your way back down, your muscles trembling from the strain.
As soon as your feet touched the ground, Minho was right there, his hands gripping your shoulders as he looked you over, his eyes scanning you for any signs of injury. "What were you thinking?" he demanded, his voice a mix of anger and relief. "You could've fallen and broken your neck!"
You dropped your gaze, guilt gnawing at you. "I don't know... I just felt like I had to do something. I needed to feel... I don't know, alive?"Minho's expression softened a bit at your words, though the worry didn't leave his eyes. "I get that, but climbing the walls? That's not the way to go about it. You scared the shuck out of me."
"I'm sorry," you muttered, feeling a pang of guilt.
Minho sighed, pulling you into a quick, tight hug before stepping back to look at you again.
"Look, I know things can get to you in this place, but you can't take risks like that. We're a team here, and I can't afford to lose you."
You nodded, the reality of what you'd done sinking in. "I won't do it again."
"Good," he said, his voice firm but kind. "And if you ever feel like you need to do something crazy like that again, talk to me first, alright? We'll figure it out together."
You managed a small smile, feeling the weight of his concern and care. "Alright. Thanks, Minho."
He nodded, finally letting out a breath he'd been holding. "Come on, let's get you some water. You look like you could use it."
As you walked away from the wall, Minho kept a watchful eye on you, his hand resting on your shoulder as if to remind you that he was there, that you didn't have to face the challenges of the Glade alone. And in that moment, you were grateful for his steady presence, knowing that no matter what, Minho had your back.
