I stared at the door, waiting for the doorbell to ring again. Nothing happened. I looked over at Kate who had a worried look on her face, her eyes were also glued to the source of the noise, waiting for something to happen. I rose slowly from the couch, taking caution with every move I made.
"Hey y/n where are you going" Kate said in a quiet voice.
"Sh, just stay here" I whispered back. Kate listened to me and stayed seated, watching me move slowly towards the door. I pressed my back against the wall and shuffled along it, keeping out of view of the windows.
"Y/n please be careful!" Kate whisper shouted to me.
I didn't reply, just kept edging closer and closer to the window besides the door.
Once I reached the glass, I peered my head round the corner, attempting to see who or what was outside. All I could see was a lot of nothingness, just the darkness of the night. I squinted my eyes to try and see further into the distance. My breathing became slightly heavier and quicker when I could make out 4 matte black vans parked on the driveway blocking the gates, and our escape.
"Oh no" I muttered under my breath.
"What is it?" Kate asked, her eyes locked on me.
I kept my focus on the vans, until I noticed around three red lights blinking just below the window. I squinted my eyes yet again to try and make out what I was looking at, then I realised.
"SHIT! KATE GET DOWN!" I shouted to her, before a loud boom echoed through the room. The window I was looking through shattered along with half of the others in the room, sending glass flying at me and Kate, a few chunks sliced through my skin and Kate's. The explosion threw me across the room into a wall, causing me to collapse onto my stomach in pain. My ears rang and my the sound of my heart beat flooded my ears. I couldn't move due to the intense pain that ran through my body. I laid on the floor amongst the broken glass and flames that surrounded us with only one thing on my mind, Kate. My surroundings faded and my eyes closed, rendering me unconscious.
Kate had been knocked back also by the bomb, but she was still conscious and able to move. She had used her body to protect lucky, who was thankfully okay thanks to Kate. But that meant that Kate had some cuts on her back from the glass. She groaned in pain trying to stand up. She scanned the room to find me, and when she did a tear fell from her eyes.
"Y/N!" She shouted, "Y/N CAN YOU HEAR ME!"
She pushed rubble and broken furniture out of her way to try and reach me but there was to much to get through. She turned around to see lucky laid back in his bed somehow unbothered by the events. She crawled over to him and scooped him up in her arms, then got to her feet. She ran to the back door and put him outside where he would be hopefully safe, before grabbing her bow and quiver which was spread across the bow cracked counter.
She was about to go back to where the rubble was separating us, but she realised she would be able to get to me. She found her way through a hole in the wall which created a little crawl space she could use to reach me. She laid on her stomach and army crawled through it, until she reach me.
Kate knelt down beside me and rolled me onto my back. Immediately, she reached for my neck searching for a pulse which she found, and let out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, hey can you hear me. Y/n wake up please we gotta go!" She spoke quickly with urgency and she lightly patted the side of my face as she said this.
I opened my eyes and sat up, clutching the left side of my ribs with right hand, "fuck!" I said with a raspy voice. A large piece of glass had stabbed into my side during the explosion and was sticking out of my ribs.
"Shit y/n" Kate said staring down at the wound, "okay hold on a second, don't go anywhere" she instructed before running off to the kitchen.
She came back holding a large kitchen knife and a small cooking blowtorch, "we gotta get it out y/n!"
I looked up at what she was holding and my eyes widened, "Oh hell no, No way Kate!"
"Y/n shut the fuck up and let me help you" Kate said kneeling back down beside me. She placed her hands around the chunk of glass and looked at me then back at the wound.
"No, no Kate. Kate I'm serious don't-" I started but before I could finish, she yanked it out, causing me to let out a scream of pain. She instantly place her left hand over the open wound to stop the bleeding. "Kate.." I began talking again before she cut me off.
"I'm so sorry I have to do this" she said, picking up the knife and the blowtorch. She let go of the gash and lit the torch and waved it over the knife, turning the blade red with heat.
"No don't you fucking dare! Don't fucking touch me! Kate...KATE!" I panicked. She lifted up my shirt and quickly pressed the burning knife onto my bleeding wound. I screamed in agony and the pain of the hot blade seeped into my cut. She held it there for roughly 10 second before lifting it off, revealing a large burn over where the cut previously was.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't let you bleed to death y/n." Kate said, stoking her hand across my cheek.
I looked at her and nodded, understanding but still in immense pain. She stood up and grabbed my hand, pulling me to my feet.
"Okay we have to get out of here, like now" I said grabbing hold of Kate's hand. I guided her out of the room and towards the stairs, but before we could make it there, I felt Kate's hand being ripped from mine.
"Y/N!" Kate screamed.
I spun around to see her being dragged away by a large man in all black uniform. Two other men began walking in from behind him.
