The shot she didn't take

Did you order pizza?

The day had gone by quick. Kate and I had spent most of the day training and showing off our own skills. She had taught me more on archery and I helped her with her combat and combos. After a tiring day of training, we decided to do something to relax. Kate suggested the hot tub, but I objected as I had just showered after training and she agreed, so we decided on a classic movie night.

We had put on Scream, which was a bit random because Kate wasn't really into horrors but I liked them so I didn't argue.

Kate was laid across the couch and I was laid in between her legs, my head resting on her chest. She ran her fingers through my hair and then occasionally across my neck in a pattern. We didn't really talk much, we just laid there in silence and watch the movie. It was a nice silence though, it just felt nice to have her with me.

I could feel Kate's body tense whenever there was something scary or gory happening on screen, so I had kept my hand rested on her arm, and each time she tensed I'd rub my thumb against her skin to comfort her.

"Hey we don't have to watch this you know, we can watch something else" I spoke softly to her.

She smiled down at me then placed a small kiss on my head, "No it's okay, it's not too bad"

"Kate I can literally feel you tensing up almost every second" I said kind of sitting up a little to face her.

She sighed and then gave me a small smile, "honestly it's fine, it's just a little gross that's all. Really... I'm okay" she assured me.

"Okay" I whispered back smiling.

She leaned forwards and connected our lips with a kiss. She brought her hand to my face as the kiss grew deeper. I pulled out of it and rested my forehead against hers, placing my hand on her thigh. She brought our lips together one last time for a short kiss then laid back down on the couch. She held her arms out for me to lay in them and I did so, cuddling up to her then pulling the blanket over us to keep us warm.

"This is nice" she whispered to me, rubbing her hand up and down my back.

I let out a sigh of comfort and replied with, "It's more than nice... it's perfect."

We laid there for the rest of the movie, every now and again either me or Kate would say something to the other. When it had finished I was sat up and Kate had her head on my lap, gazing up at me while I talked.

"Hey I'm kinda hungry, what about you?" I asked, fiddling with a rubix cube I'd found on the coffee table besides me.

"Huh yeah, I kinda am...I could really go for a pizza?" She replied, glancing over at lucky who had unsurprisingly woken up to the mention of pizza.

"Do you eat anything other than pizza?" I joked.

"I- yeah- I mean lucky loves it" she stuttered before laughing.

"You're so cute" I said, my tone of voice becoming slightly quieter.

Kate suddenly went all quiet.

"Oh shit I said that out loud- I uh- sorry. I'm sorry" i rambled, overthinking the situation like normal.

"Hey hey, no it's okay. I just- wasn't expecting it" she smiled up at me.

I leaned forwards placing another kiss on her lips, I could feel her smiling into it, until we heard the door bell ring.

Kate pulled away and shot up, lucky even jolted up at the sound, "hey did you- did you order pizza?" She asked with a concerned look on her face, knowing full well what the answer was.

I stared at the door then answered, "No..."
