The shot she didn't take

"What are we?"

A week had passed since I had been properly reunited with the team and most importantly Kate. She practically hasn't left my side since I'd got out of that cell. She even slept in my room on an air bed...I'm not sure why she didn't just stay in my bed, maybe she wanted to give me space.

"OH MY GOD Y/N HELPP I CANT MOVE!!" Kate shouted, pulling me from my thoughts, "HELP what do I do something's shooting at me, y/nnnnn!!!"

"oh no, hold on I'm coming...KATE WHERE ARE YOU!" I said trying to find her.

"Right here!"

"Where!!?"

"Look down!" She said, her voice panicking as another arrow shot at her.

"Oh my- Kate- why did you dig straight down, what have I said about this" I started laughing a little as I started to dig to her.

"I needed stone!" She said to justify, "can you just help me pleaseeee"

"Hold on I'm here.." as I said this I shot a couple of arrows at the skeleton attacking Kate and finished digging my staircase to reach her, "follow me we need to get back to the house there will be wayyy more mobs in a second!"

It was a Sunday, which meant no training or missions, so I decided to teach Kate how to play minecraft. It was one of the few games I had brought with me and it was multiplayer so it worked well.

"Uh oh my hungers about to run out!" Kate said, as she began to look through chests for food.

"Here have mine and I'll go get some more, stay here" i dropped her 6 cooked chickens and I ran out of the house to go find some more.

On my way back I spotted a patch of flowers, so I picked up a pink tulip and put it into my inventory, then made my way back to Kate.

"Hey, I have a surprise for you.." I said to Kate, her character turned around as I opened the door. I took out the tulip from my inventory and dropped it in front of her to pick up. When it popped into her hot bar, she turned to her head in real life to look at me.

I saw her turn out of the corner of my eyes, so I turned my head to face her. She had the widest smile on her face, her eyes looked deep into my own, "aww babe, thank you you're so cute." Her eyes widened and her smile dropped as she realised what she just said.  She immediately turned her head back to the screen and fiddled with her controller, going back to playing the game.

"Kate- did.. did you just.." I said with a slight chuckle

"Nooo no I- no. I didn't" she said cutting me off.

"Yes you did!" I started to chuckling more now, "Kate you just called me babe!"

"Pffft whaaaat? Nooo- okay yes I did, I'm sorry it just it slipped out." She said as she turned back round to look at me, blush began spreading across her cheeks.

"Slipped out?" I laughed

"Mhm yep." She looked at me awkwardly waiting for me to respond.
Instead, I leaned forward and placed my hand on the back of her neck and pulled her into a gentle kiss. As I pulled away I held eye contact and moved my hand to cup her cheek.

"It's okay, besides you're really cute when you're nervous." I pulled her back into a short kiss, in which I could feel Kate smile into. She pulled out of it and smiled at me before tackling me to the ground in a hug. She had her arms wrapped around my waist and her head comfortably on my chest. We laid there in silence for a second or two, then Kate took a deep breath in.

"Hey y/n/n... can I ask you something?" Her voice sounded nervous again but a little more worried.

I sat us up and she untangled herself from my body, "yeah, what's up?" I said in a gentle voice.

"What- what are we?... and you don't have to answer I just, I dunno I just was wondering, cause I really realllyy like you and I ..." she trailed off and looked at the floor.

I grabbed hold of her hands and brought her attention back to me, giving her a look to finish speaking.

" I just wanted to know what we are like, if we're just friends or...something more than that.." she said, her voice quiet.

I took a breath and thought about me answer before replying, "Kate, I really like you to... you make me happier than I've ever been and I think we both know that we are definitely something more than friends.." I laughed a little, which made Kate blush and let out a chuckle.

"Yeah, um, so..." Kate said, I could practically feel her heart beating from here.

"So...Kate Bishop, would you do me the honour, of making me the happiest girl ever, and being my girlfriend?" I said, my heart was now beating faster than ever out of pure nervousness. In the few months I've known Kate, I genuinely have never been so happy with anyone before. I looked into her eyes waiting for a response.

She didn't reply, instead she crashed her lips against mine and cupped her hands around my cheeks. She mmmm I let myself melt into the kiss until she eventually pulled away, resting her forehead against mine.

"Yes.." she said simply. At those words my heart smiled. Kate bishop is my girlfriend.
