Kate's POV
It was the middle of the night and the sky was dark and covered in heaven grey clouds. Rain was thrashing against the cold grass outside. I awoke to the constant tapping of the droplets on my window, and I sat up in bed. I flicked on the lamp on the bedside table and looked at the time on the alarm clock next to me. The time read 02:17 am. Normally, I would have started scrolling through my phone if I had woke up in the night but that was lost somewhere on the crashed jet, so I decided to get up and get a glass of water.
I slowly opened the door, carefully avoiding any creaks as I did so. I stepped out light on my feet, but when I looked at the couch where Y/n should be sleeping, it was empty. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone sat on the porch through the front windows of the lodge. Y/n.
I quickly made my way to the front door and opened it, stepping out into the pouring rain. I gasped when the icey drops touched my skin. It was so cold that when I breathed, the air went all misty in front of my mouth.
I looked down at a soaking wet Y/n. She was wearing all black sweats with her hood up over her head. Her eye weren't focused on anything; she just stared at the ground, shivering.
"Y/n? What the fuck are you doing?!" I spoke loudly so she could hear me over the rain.
Y/n looked up at me for a second then back at the floor, "I dunno...just thinking." She said in a very tired voice.
"It's 2 am." I said.
"...yeah." She said blankly.
Noticing her shivering more and more each second, I sat down my her side and pulled her into my body. She meant on my should as I wrapped my arms around her.
"You okay?" I asked her softly.
"Yeah... well, no." She said.
I looked at her face and saw a tear roll down her cheek among the rain that had covered her face.
"Hey, let's go inside and warm up. We can talk about it then go to sleep, that sound okay?" I suggested as I stood up and offered my hands to her.
Y/n look at and me and gave me a fake smile. Taking hold of my hand, we she stood up and we walked back inside.
Y/n sat down on the couch with a blanket wrapped around her. I had given her some clean pyjamas I had found in the wardrobe and had also changed into some myself. Her hair was in a messy bun and she was holding a cup of hot chocolate that she took a sip from every so often. I quickly tied my hair up into a ponytail and walked over to y/n, sitting beside her.
"Hey Kate" y/n said smiling at me gratefully.
"Hi y/n/n, talk to me, what's up?" I said softly placing my hand on hers.
"I miss Tasha... the recording was the first time I had saw her face or even heard her voice since.." she stopped her self, "Um, well it just made me think about her more and it's so hard Kate. I hate that she's gone... why her? If only I had been there to st-" she began tearing up again and I cut her off.
I squeezed her hand causing her to make eye contact with me, "Y/n, it's okay. There's nothing you could have done and I know it's difficult, I know. But she did it think of you...thinking of Yelena. She wanted you to live in a world that's safe even if it's one without her. I know nothing can bring her back, and I'm so sorry if my speech is shitty cause I'm bad at this but just know that she loves you, and she's not gone. She always with you, right here."
I pointed at her heart with my index finger then flattened my plan over her chest. She reached up and placed her hand over mine.
She chuckled a little with a few tears remaining in her eyes, "you're speech wasn't shitty Kate, thank you." She smiled at me and then took my hand that was on her chest and placed it in between hers. She leaned forward and placed her head on my shoulder as I wrapped my arm around her.
"It's really late, we should go back to sleep.." y/n whispered with her eyes closed.
"Yeah we should." I replied.
I stood up gently, said goodnight to y/n and began making my way back to my room. I got back under the covers and just as I was about to switch the light off, my door opened a few inches with a creak.
"Can I stay with you?" Y/n asked sweetly.
I smiled at her and lifted up the other side of the covers. She walked around and slide under and I threw the sheets over her. Y/n shuffled close to me and placed her head on my chest and snaked her arm over my stomach.
"Goodnight Kate." She whispered.
"Night y/n/n..." I whispered back.
A/n: I know it's been a while I'm so sorry. Unfortunately I've had exams the past week and a bit so it's been stressful times, but fear not I am back and the story continues. I hope you enjoyed this short chapter, more is on its way. Have a great day :))
