Has your chest ever felt like it was going to cave in from how fast your heart was beating? Or from how strong of a feeling that was in it? Janae can't even begin to explain how bad this is for her. She has never in all of her 20 years of life, felt so over her own head for a man like this.
Her granny would be so disappointed in her. She's a player, though. The older woman has like five different boyfriends for each business day. They bring her lunch, snacks, all that. They take her grocery shopping when she needs to. She just got her toes done the other day and the man sat in there with her. On Sundays, she doesn't talk to any of them but she goes to church.
It's her 'reset day'. Janae doesn't blame her for her actions. Niggas ain't shit for real. Like as a collective, they are terrible. But individually?...
She's being shown different. She has never been so damn drunk on somebody before.
Her and Marcus were on and off for almost three years and she's never felt like this before. This is such a different dynamic that what she was going through before.
Even right now, watching Xavier be shown how to make coffee from scratch, her heart is doing that stutter thing. When she looks at him, she doesn't feel the need to scowl or swing on him. She's just... happy.
"Awweee. What you all cheesing over here for?" Malia walks over and sits in the booth next to her.
Namjoon and Malia reserved slots at the cafe up the street from the school. They're having an event that's focused all around coffee. The different kinds, the different flavors, the different ways to make it and the different machines used to do so.
They have different flavors and types from all over the world here today. Brazil, Colombia, Paris, Italy, Japan, Asia, Mexico. There are so many different tastes and scents for people to try.
Namjoon heard it about it and knew it would be something that Xavier would like. He may have underestimated himself a bit considering that the man hasn't stopped smiling since they got here.
Xavier realized what it was and literally gasped. There was a twinkle in his eye and everything. The smile that formed made the rest of them smile too. He hugged all of them but Namjoon was hugged first.
"I'm not cheesing." Janae responds to Malia and she smacks her teeth.
"Don't lie. What you thinking about? Xavier?"
"Yeah. Since you want to be nosy so bad."
"Go to hell. I deserve to know. My two best friends in the whole world are dating." She smiles at her. "And I know he makes you happy. You can't lie about that, it's all over your face. You even smile different now."
"How?" Her eyebrow raises and Malia shrugs.
"I dunno. It just seems.. more genuine, I guess? Like you actually want to smile. Does that make sense?"
Janae nods in complete understanding of what she means.
"It does." She pulls on the strings of her hoodie. "He makes me feel good, Lia."
The words feel weird coming out of her mouth. They feel so foreign even being said in her head. She's never thought to say them before. It's weird how emotions give a person entirely new vocabulary to use. It's impossible to describe emotions that you've never felt. It's like a key to a locked door when you finally do.
The smile on Malia's face is so big, Janae just knows that the girl's cheeks hurt.
"I'm so happy that you're happy, Janae. And I'm so happy that you and Xavier are good together. You're good for each other. It's like fresh air, right?"
